Crossroads legend Tony Adams has tragically passed away aged 84 its been announced.
The actor, who played accountant Adam Chance in the ITV soap from 1978-1988 before returning for the 2001 reboot, died at Sussex County Hospital in on Saturday with wife Christine by his side.
While best known for his role in Crossroads Tony also appeared in 70s soap General hospital as Dr Neville Bywaters as well as episodes of The Two Ronnies and Doctor Who.
Following the devastating news of his passing fans rushed to social media to pay tribute to the ‘wonderfully charming’ actor and said he had been reunited with late Crossroads co-star and close friend Noele Gordon.
Taking to X the Crossroads fan club wrote: ‘RIP Tony Adams, kind and supportive to the Fan Club and remained a patron of Crossroads Care right up to the end. He’d been ill for a while but in typical Tony Adams style carried on with that charm he always had’.
To which fans replied: ‘This is so sad. I used to think he was wonderful when he was in crossroads. May he RIP’: ‘May he RIP, he was great as Adam’: ‘Oh, so sad to hear this He was brilliant as Neville Bywaters in General Hospital too. Condolences to the family. Rest In Peace’.

Another gushed: ‘Crossroads was my favourite soap back in the day – yes it was cheesy and flimsy, but it was great fun and it was a constant for many years. So I’m sad to learn tonight that Tony Adams – ‘Adam Chance’ – has died’.
‘Sad to hear on the death of that old smoothie Tony Adams – most famous as ladies man and motel boss Adam Chance’: ‘Sad to hear that Crossroads’ Adam Chance, the fabulous Tony Adams, has passed’.
In 2023, Tony had cameo role in ITV drama Nolly, created by Russell T Davies which tells the story of his pal Noele’s infamous axing from the soap.
Born Anthony Sawley Adams in Anglesey North Wales in 1940 he trained at London’s Italia Conti theatre school before starting his career on stage.
Starring Helena Bonham carter in the title role, Nolly explored the all-powerful reign and fall from grace of the inimitable Noele.
She was declared the ‘Queen of the Midlands’ thanks to iconic role as Meg Mortimer in Crossroads and was the darling of the establishment until it turned on her.
As flame-haired widow Meg in the long-running soap opera Crossroads, Noele became one of the most famous people in Britain.
Then in 1981, at the height of the show’s success and the peak of her fame, she was axed without ceremony, without warning and with no explanation, with the soap eventually ending two years later.

With the boss’ words ‘all good things must come to an end’ ringing in her ears, Noele found herself thrown out of the show that was her life for over 18 years.
Noele, who had previously had multiple roles in the theatre before landing her part in Crossroads, played Meg from 1964 to 1981, and later returned for a two-episode stint in 1983.
After she was dropped from the show, Noele’s ill health prevented her from accepting many more roles, and she died in 1985 at the age of 66.
