The Connors are bringing a few surprises to the family table for the upcoming season of the hit sitcom.
ABC dropped the Season 6 trailer for its most-watched comedy on Saturday and the 30-second clip revealed the return of Sean Astin as Fedex pilot Tyler, Becky’s (Lecy Goranson) love interest.
The pair’s relationship appears to be getting serious as Tyler is invited to the Connor family poker night taking place in their kitchen.
‘For new boyfriends, the ante is $25,’ Dan (John Goodman) tells Tyler, to which he responds,’ I’m gonna take all your money and your daughter’.
Dan quips, ‘Only half of that bothers me.’

Hilarity ensues elsewhere as Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) claims Darlene (Sara Gilbert) has ‘always been the messenger of doom,’ to which Darlene replies, ‘I’m a little rusty but looking to get back on the horse.’
In a heavier moment, Darlene tells Dan that she’s ‘scared’ as they stand in the living room of Darlene’s grandmother Bev (Estelle Parsons), who was diagnosed with dementia last season.
The new season of the show — a spinoff of the revival of Roseanne following Roseanne Barr’s controversial exit in May 2018 — will also see Katey Sagal return as Louise Goldufski.
Astin’s character was initially introduced in Season 5 and marked the first notable romantic interest for Becky since the passing of her husband, Mark.
The return of Tyler, however, wasn’t a guarantee, as TVLine reported.
‘Whenever we bring in a new love interest, we’ve got to watch the chemistry, because we never know [if it will work],’ executive producer Bruce Helford previously told the outlet.
‘But we love Sean, and they were great together, so we definitely want to bring them back together and see what we can find there.’
In 2018, Barr garnered bad publicity for the revival of her titular sitcom through her behavior on social media.
She posted a string of racist tweets targeting Valerie Jarrett, a former advisor to Barack Obama, leading to her removal from Roseanne.

The producers devised a spinoff that could essentially function as Roseanne without its central figure, ala The Connors.
Barr’s character was killed off in the first episode as her she was revealed to have a secret opioid addiction and overdosed.
Barr gave up all financial and creative involvement with the new series after coming to an agreement with ABC.
