The 38-year-old actor opened up about filming the comedy-drama series with Fanning, 28, and shed light on what went into some of the steamy moments.
'We had rehearsals that were for our sex scenes, but they called it stunt rehearsals,' he told People at the premiere in on Wednesday, April 8.
'It was actually kind of fun thinking of it like stunt work,' he added.
He explained that he and Fanning - who with , 32, at SXSW last month and said she was 'on set a lot' for support - had to do physical preparations before filming.
'You're sore after,' he said before adding that rehearsing the sex scenes together was a 'bonding' experience between them.
