Tilda Swinton

Katherine Mathilda Swinton, known professionally as Tilda Swinton, born November 5, 1960, in London, England, to a Scottish military aristocratic family — her father Sir John Swinton is a major general and former Lord High Commissioner of the Church of Scotland — is one of the most singular, otherworldly, and intellectually rigorous performers in the history of cinema, an actor and performance artist whose collaboration with avant-garde director Derek Jarman in the 1980s established a deliberately anti-commercial artistic vision that she has maintained throughout a career of extraordinary range and consistent critical acclaim.
