Michael Bakari Jordan, born February 9, 1987, in Santa Ana, California, and raised in Newark, New Jersey, is one of the most dynamic and critically acclaimed actors of his generation, a performer of extraordinary physical presence and emotional intelligence who has built a body of work in franchise blockbusters and socially engaged prestige drama making him one of the defining male stars of the 2010s and 2020s. Growing up in Newark, Jordan began modeling as a child and appeared in commercials before landing his first significant acting role in the soap opera All My Children (2000). His breakout came with The Wire (2002-2003), David Simon's acclaimed HBO crime drama, in which he played the doomed teenager Wallace — a child absorbed into the drug trade who cannot escape it — in one of the most affecting performances of that extraordinary series. He followed this with Friday Night Lights (2009-2011), the NBC drama about Texas high school football, where his portrayal of quarterback Vince Howard developed the depth and warmth of a seasoned lead.
