Chris Hemsworth

Christopher Liam Hemsworth, born August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia, and raised partly in Phillip Island and in the remote Indigenous community of Bulman in the Northern Territory, where his mother Leonie worked as a teacher, is an Australian actor who achieved global superstardom through his portrayal of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while building a parallel career in mainstream drama, action, and comedy outside the franchise. He attended Heathmont College in Heathmont, Victoria, before breaking into acting through the Australian series Home and Away (2004-2007) as Kim Hyde. His film career accelerated when he relocated to Los Angeles, making a strong impression as George Kirk in J.J. Abrams's Star Trek (2009) before being cast as Thor in Thor (2011), for which he underwent a radical physical transformation building forty pounds of muscle. His Thor appeared across Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Thor: Ragnarok (2017, in which his genuine gift for broad physical comedy under Taika Waititi's direction surprised audiences), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
