Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, born October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is one of the most gifted multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, dancer, and songwriter-producers of his era, a performer whose meticulous mastery of virtually every strand of American popular music — funk, soul, R&B, reggae, rock, pop, and hip-hop — and whose breathtaking live performance ability have made him one of the most consistently beloved and critically admired recording artists of the past fifteen years. Born into a profoundly musical family of Puerto Rican and Filipino descent, Mars grew up performing in Waikiki as a small child, impersonating Elvis Presley for tourists at age four and performing with his father's band. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was seventeen, and he spent his early twenties as a struggling songwriter, co-writing hits for other artists before breaking through as a solo artist. His debut single Just the Way You Are (2010) was a global number-one hit.
