Austin Robert Butler, born August 17, 1991, in Anaheim, California, and raised in Anaheim Hills and Scottsdale, Arizona, is an American actor who achieved international acclaim and his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his remarkable portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis (2022), a performance requiring two years of rigorous preparation, voice training, physical transformation, and meticulous research that resulted in one of the most fully inhabited biographical performances in the history of the genre — and the possession of Elvis's distinctive Southern drawl so complete that Butler was still speaking in the accent months after filming ended, a phenomenon documented in multiple interview clips that became a widespread cultural moment.
