Barrera was fired from Scream 7 after sharing multiple posts supporting Palestinians amid Israel's destruction of Gaza in the Israel–Hamas War. A day later, her costar Jenna Ortega left the film, and she later revealed that it was partly due to Barrera's firing; both are pictured in Scream VI

Instead, Barrera's firing played a major role, as did the departure of the film's original directors, who had worked with her on Scream VI.

'The Melissa [Barrera] stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart. If Scream 7 wasn't going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn't seem like the right move for me in my career at the time,' she told The Cut last year.

Activists held signs outside the premiere reading 'Paramount whitewashes genocide' and 'Paramount has a BLACKLIST of actors who criticize Israel.'

Scream 7 director Kevin Williamson (R) responded to the protests: 'I saw them and my heart just sort of stopped,' he told THR. 'Look, we live in America. Everyone has a right to protest, and everyone should be heard. And if you have your truth and if you want to stand up and be heard, you protest. That is your right in this country, and I stand by it'

Despite protesters using megaphones and shouting on the sidewalk, their chants were reportedly barely audible inside the theater on the red carpet.
