Holly Ramsay and Adam Peatys Sister Clash!

Blessed are the peacemakers? Not if they get embroiled in hostilities, too. In the astonishing war that erupted when two famous families – the Ramsays and the Peatys – were joined in holy matrimony, there was a lonely figure who somehow seemed to stay neutral and loyal to both sides.

Bravo, it appeared at the time, to bridesmaid and sister of the groom Bethany, who was the only member of Olympic swimmer ’s immediate family to attend the nuptials.

In an extraordinarily public family feud, the entire Peaty family – starting with Caroline, the mother of the groom – was uninvited from the lavish wedding, and relations between the two families have been non-existent ever since. But Bethany, 33, was the exception, meaning that all hopes for reconciliation were pinned on her shoulders.

Seven months on, a new generation is about to join the family fray. Bride Holly, the 26-year-old daughter of chef , is pregnant and expecting her first child – and his first grandchild – in December. And The Mail on Sunday can reveal that, by happy coincidence, Bethany is also pregnant. She is expecting her third child just weeks later, in January.

Yet forget any talk of a joint baby shower, for the MoS can also reveal that in the latest twist of this soap opera, Bethany has sensationally fallen out with Holly. The peacemaker is at loggerheads with her sister-in-law – hugely hurt, I am told, at how she has been treated.

Not only are they no longer communicating, but this time it is Adam who is stuck in middle, trying (and so far failing) to mend fences. So distressed has Beth been over tensions with Holly that, I understand, she even went to hospital to have her unborn baby checked out because of her soaring stress levels.

One source close to the family tells me: ‘They are not on speaking terms. They had a close bond. Beth was really there for Holly in the past, but she has turned on her.’

Why? It all has to do with the timing of both pregnancies, and the strain sharing the spotlight has put on the relationship.

‘Holly didn’t want Beth to announce she was also pregnant, it would take the spotlight off her,’ our source says. ‘She wants the limelight to always be on her. It seems like jealousy.

‘Holly should be happy for her sister-in-law. Especially after the fallout with [mother-in-law] Caroline and the wedding drama. They had a close bond, so for her to turn around and do this is massively out of proportion.

‘They are not on speaking terms. When Beth is done with someone, she won’t be friends with them.’

Granted, it’s hard to keep up with who said or did what here, but the wider feud – which has led to Adam severing contact with the devoted parents who sacrificed so much for his swimming career – began in the run-up to Adam and Holly’s glossy wedding on December 27 last year.

Although Gordon Ramsay was invited to Adam’s stag do, his mum Caroline was not on the guest list for Holly’s hen do at the exclusive Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire in November.

News of further slights – including allegations that Holly and Adam had vetoed Caroline’s choice wedding outfit – started to leak.

It was an explosive Instagram post made by Caroline’s sister, former lawyer Louise Williams, that put the whole saga in the public domain. Adam’s aunt lashed out at him and accused Holly of ‘divisive and hurtful’ behaviour. ‘You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever,’ she wrote.

Photographs of the hen do – notably including the bride-to-be’s mother, Tana Ramsay, and her good friend Victoria Beckham – had also been posted on Instagram.

To rub salt into the wounds, on the night in question, Caroline was at home looking after grandson George, Adam’s son from a previous relationship, while he was enjoying his stag do in Budapest.

There were layers of feuding here, though, as various members of the family pitched in with their thoughts.

Adam’s big brother James, 34 – known as Jamie – remains on conditional bail under police investigation and facing possible charges of verbal abuse and harassment towards Adam.

He was arrested in November over allegations he sent threats to the Olympian during that stag week. It led to Adam getting a large police escort at Manchester airport on his return home.

The siblings’ dad Mark said at the time: ‘They’re brothers. They’ve always been close, but like any normal family brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up, and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand. There’s been very little empathy for Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.’

At the time, Caroline, a former nursery manager, tearfully told the Daily Mail the rift with her son had caused a hurt so deep it was as if her heart had been torn from her chest. She explained that she had sold belongings on Vinted to afford a £450 outfit, complete with fascinator, that would meet with approval from the new and far wealthier in-laws.

Again and again, she spoke of the importance of family.

‘All I want to do is support people, help them,’ she said. ‘I want people to be happy, not to go through life arguing and disliking each other.’

In the furore, Caroline was told, via a message, that she was no longer invited to the wedding, and also that she would not be seeing George, or ‘any future grandchildren’ either. An invitation to Boxing Day drinks with the Ramsays was also swiftly withdrawn.

By all accounts, Caroline wept her way through the day of the wedding –where Bethany was fulfilling her role as bridesmaid in matching scarlet dresses with Holly’s sisters Tilly and Megan.

It cannot have been an easy decision for Bethany to be the only Peaty there. At the time, she received backlash for ‘turning on her own family’, with a family source claiming that she had been ‘a bit of a snake’.

Bethany told the Daily Mail earlier this year that it had been a ‘very difficult time’, adding: ‘I’m caught right in the middle of the row. But I’ve made up with mum, really, for the children. They adore her, and she is a great grandma and a good mum.’

She gave the impression of being someone who actively wanted to bring both sides together.

My source insists that Bethany stuck her neck out to show her public support for Adam and Holly – at a potential cost to herself.

‘Aunty Beth loves you already, cannot wait to meet you,’ she wrote underneath the social media post announcing Holly’s pregnancy. She still follows them both on Instagram, but behind the scenes, drama has been unfolding.

A major factor was a phone call that left both parties infuriated.

Bethany, a carer who has a nine-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter with her partner Daniel Rogerson, was approached to give an interview about Adam and Holly’s baby news.

It is understood that there would be a payment involved. A source said: ‘Beth rang Holly out of respect and consideration, and said, “Can I answer these questions? It would make a massive difference to us. I’m struggling to work with the pregnancy, and it would help for a few weeks.”

‘Holly told Beth, “No. Absolutely not. Me and Adam will take a step back if you do. You can’t go into the limelight and speak about my pregnancy.”’

Given that she’s only ever been delighted for the couple, and any interview would have been positive, she was shocked to be spoken to like this.

The family friend added: ‘Holly is a control freak, I’m not sure why she has reacted this way. Holly comes across nice and even gave Beth her extra industry freebies, but it seems it is all for show, and the cracks are starting to show.

‘She is starting to treat Beth the same way she treated the rest of his family.’

Where is Adam in all this? After all, when Holly fell out with his parents, he was quick to take his future wife’s side. This time, it isn’t as clear-cut.

My source reveals that Adam didn’t agree with the way Holly spoke to his sister, but his wife has ‘put him in an awkward position’. ‘It is a shame for Adam. Beth is always going to be his sister, but he is married to Holly and doesn’t want to rock the boat with her because he loves her and is having a baby with her. But he made it clear to Beth that he doesn’t agree with what Holly said.’

Key to this is an understanding that a paid interview would have made a difference to Bethany’s life, especially at this point.

‘Money has never been an issue for Holly, but Beth is a normal person working hard during her pregnancy, and money would really make a difference.

‘Adam knows this. He also knows what it is like to not come from a famous background, whereas Holly was born into it. Adam remembers where he has come from, which is why he doesn’t agree with what Holly has done.

‘Beth wouldn’t say a bad word about anyone. She has been trying to keep the peace, but this has really upset her.

‘She had to get checked at the hospital after it all, due to her stress levels. Thankfully, everything was fine, but it hasn’t done her any favours. She is still excited about her baby news, but it has taken a toll on her.’

Some members of the Peaty family are convinced that Holly didn’t want her pregnancy upstaged by her sister-in-law’s. Had Bethany given that interview, she would likely have revealed her own growing bump and so the story would have become less about Holly’s pending baby but about the two women’s bond through their parallel pregnancies.

And sources suspect an undertow of snobbery at is at play here, too, given the gulf in wealth and celebrity status that exists between the two clans.

James’s arrest cannot have helped the impression the Ramsays may have of the Peatys. But jail time isn’t unfamiliar territory for Gordon’s family, either, for both his brother and Tana’s father have spent time in prison.

Ronald Ramsay was jailed for ten months in Bali, Indonesia, in September 2007 after police found 100 milligrams of heroin in his pocket.

Tana’s father Chris Hutcheson was sentenced to six months in prison in June 2017 after he orchestrated a plot to hack into the celebrity chef’s company computers during a family feud.
