During San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, director Ryan Coogler and President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige announced that actor David Jonsson, 32, will play the new Black Panther and T'Challa's adult son in the forthcoming sequel.
Black Panther 3 is scheduled to hit theaters later on December 15, 2028, according to Vulture.
Boseman previously played the character of T'Challa/Black Panther before his .
In a video shared by the outlet, Coogler was seen on stage in front of a large crowd during the event as he excitedly introduced 'our new Black Panther' to the stage.
The audience erupted into roars of applause and cheers as Jonsson appeared on the stage to join Coogler as well as Feige, and Winston Duke.

The actor placed a hand over his heart during an emotional moment as he took in the warm welcome from fans.
'I want to say thank you so much,' Jonsson expressed. 'Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and privilege and blessing to join.

The late Boseman had initially stepped into the role of the Black Panther in the 2018 Marvel movie, which was a critical success upon its release
He had joined other cast members such as Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and Martin Freeman.
The project, which was directed by Coogler, raked in over $1 billion in the box office and received a number of accolades.

A sequel titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released in theaters in 2022, with Letitia Wright playing Shuri/Black Panther.
In the upcoming third installment, Wright as well as Winston Duke are confirmed to be returning. Denzel Washington is also set to appear in the movie as well, with Coogler directing again.
Along with the Black Panther franchise, Coogler is known for other movies including Creed (2015) and Sinners (2025).

Duke, who plays M'Baku, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday about Jonsson joining the cast.
'It feels great. He's a wonderful young man. I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time today,' the star told the outlet.
'I welcomed him into the family, I welcomed him and offered him the same grace that was extended to me.'

Duke reflected that Black Panther had been his very first movie and he 'learned so much from really incredible, great actors from just being in proximity and watching them work.

He received the 2,828th star on the iconic Walk of Fame in the heart of Hollywood, with his wife formally accepting the honor.

The director shared an emotional speech at the time and said, 'We continue to carry him with us,' per Hello! Magazine.
He said that the late actor 'deserved' a star on the Walk of Fame and 'was also our most incredible jewel.'

At one point, Coogler was seen bending over in his seat to rest his hand on his face as he listened to one of the speakers.
Boseman was just age 43 when he passed away on August 28, 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, which he had been diagnosed with in 2016.
After his death, Chadwick garnered a posthumous Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and won a Golden Globe for the performance.
