Surgeon Unveils Controversial New Body Trend in Australia

A cosmetic surgeon from South has revealed the shocking new body modification procedure he believes could become the next 'extreme' trend.

As the controversial 'Barbie Waist' procedure sweeps headlines, one medical practitioner, Dr Gevork 'JoJo' Tatarian, warns there is a far more sinister enhancement that is slowly gaining popularity.   

JoJo, who owns Elevé Cosmetic Surgery with his wife Dr. Sheina Bawa in Fort Lauderdale, tells Daily Mail there are some plastic surgeons who have begun performing 'limb lengthening' procedures for aesthetic purposes. 

'They've been doing a lot of limb lengthening surgeries. I've heard it happening for about five years, but it's not that mainstream yet,' he says.

'They actually fracture the bone in your legs, and they spread it, give some distance between it, and then they plate it in place.

'So, there is a space in between your bones and then new bone grows. That's how bones heal when you break the bones, eventually new bone grows around it.'

'With these limb lengthening procedures, they fracture your bone,' he adds. 

'They spread it about two inches, and then they fix it in place, and then your bone works in between.'

JoJo says the procedure hasn't become mainstream yet, with the surgery largely happening overseas. 

However, there are some clinics throughout Australia that perform the procedure for both reconstructive needs and elective cosmetic surgery, with costs ranging from AU$70,000 to AU$180,000 depending on the techniques used. 

'I've seen some people on social media, they've done it multiple times and they've gained about six inches in their height, which is significant,' he claims.

'I mean, I wish I was six inches taller, but I wouldn't break my bones to achieve that. I think that is very extreme.'

JoJo is a double board-certified cosmetic surgeon in the US and performs all types of body enhancement procedures for his clients, including the controversial 'Barbie Waist' surgery, which includes fracturing the ribs to mould a narrower waist.

However, he says he completely draws the line at altering the function of the body, and would never attempt to lengthen a patient's limbs.  

It comes after Married At First Sight star Bec Zacharia made headlines when she revealed she was undergoing the controversial 'Barbie Waist' surgery after changing her mind about the procedure multiple times
