Bleary-eyed from lack of sleep,  said he was 'trying to do a good job' at being a .

'It's just what everybody says about it but yeah… I'm very proud to be a dad,' the actor told Entertainment Tonight as he took a momentary break from parenting to hit the red carpet for his new TV show The Hawk last week.

Just three days prior, he attended a press reception for the  comedy series, with his girlfriend Kendall Yates and their new daughter in tow. But such occasions are a rarity for the 54-year-old actor who has said little to nothing about his relationship with Yates, who is more than two decades his junior.

Unsurprisingly, the news of his daughter's arrival earlier this month drew attention to the couple's age gap. Yates is 30, the Daily Mail can confirm, despite reports claiming that she is six years younger.

Still, the difference in age has prompted comparisons between Wilson and his character in Old School, in which he played attorney Mitch Martin, a man in his 30s who falls for a student after relocating to a house with two friends near a collegiate campus.

Perhaps such reactions are why Wilson and little-known Yates have decided to remain 'super secret' about their romance, with one insider telling the Daily Mail that they 'don't want to be a celebrity couple' - so much so that Yates recently deactivated her Instagram account.

It was announced last week that Luke Wilson and Kendall Yates had welcomed a daughter (pictured together in January 2024)

They were seen with their newborn daughter in a carrier during an event for the actor's upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Hawk

'They have kept their relationship super secret and never choose to be out and about or at events all the time, but they also don't keep themselves hidden from loved ones,' the insider said, adding that the couple 'are homebodies.'

Wilson and Yates, who we are told were introduced through friends, were when they were pictured enjoying a romantic beach stroll with Wilson's dog.

There have been few sightings of them since, with the couple making only one public appearance together at the Los Angeles Premiere of Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 in June 2024.

They were also spotted in April, with Yates sporting a baby bump, although the pair never publicly confirmed the pregnancy. with their newborn in Los Angeles last week.

As their relationship 'got more serious,' the insider said, it felt like a 'no brainer' for Wilson to start a family with Yates.

'He loves her,' our source said. 'He feels being an older dad works for the best as he is very much able to adapt to the situation, emotionally and of course financially.

'Everything else in his life is set in stone so he can now focus on being a dad. If this happened years ago, he might not have had everything together.'

After all, starting later in life has given him the added benefit of being able to 'learn from his brothers,' who are both fathers. Owen Wilson, 57, has three children - Ford, 15, Finn, 12, and Lyla, seven - while Andrew Wilson, 61, has son Joseph, 23.

Yates was spotted for the first time since new the baby news in Los Angeles on July 9

Yates. 30, and Wilson, 54, have kept their romance low-key, making only one public appearance - at an after party for Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 in June 2024 - since they met

Born in February 1996, Yates, who goes by the moniker 'Breezy Yates,' grew up in Wimberley, Texas, with her parents, Steven and Stacey Yates, and brother Tyler, 32.

Yates graduated from the University of Texas, according to her LinkedIn profile, having attended from 2014 until 2018.

Wilson, for his part, is a native Texan, having been born and raised in Dallas. He occasionally pays a visit to his hometown and even filmed his 2021 movie, 12 Mighty Orphans, in Fort Worth.

Yates started modelling in college around 2016, enlisting the now-retired photographer Steve Ellinger to shoot her for her portfolio.

Recalling that time to the Daily Mail, Ellinger described Yates as 'very friendly and very personable.'

In the years since, Yates has seemingly shifted her focus from modeling to an online wellness program, Salted Vanilla Movement, and newsletter, Breź Wellness - both of which she co-founded with her close friend Mackenzie Legg.

Legg is an 'experienced fully certified Pilates instructor passionate about quality of movement,' according to their website, which claims Breezy Yates is a 'naturopathic doctor in training who is drawn to Pilates and functional movement for its ability to blend strength, flexibility, and body awareness.'

The newsletter, which launched last year, is an 'elevated online wellness experience' which features 'Pilates, functional movement, playlist curation, nourishing recipes, and all things intentional living.'

But it seems her focus will now shift again.

'It is all about their kiddo now,' our insider said. 'Kendall is completely on board to be a stay-at-home mom. It allows her and their child to travel with Luke and still be a family and not be away from each other that often. He's always in demand and working and has a bunch of stuff upcoming.'

Ellinger told the Daily Mail that she was 'very friendly and very personable' at the time, and remarked that he would love to work with her again if he wasn't retired

Becoming a father appeared to be a long time coming for Wilson.

Speaking to Hollywood Life in 2019, he said: 'I'm 47, I'm ready for that. I need to get to work.'

Ahead of his 50th birthday in 2021, the actor said he was beginning to understand the term 'midlife crisis.'

'Thirty didn't matter to me. Forty didn't matter to me,' he told People magazine. 'I just steamrolled right through it, but 50 - I don't know if it's getting to me because I am sore when I wake up in the middle of the night, and I am forgetting the names of people I know.

'It's definitely one of those things that has had me thinking, oh, okay. So, this is where the phrase midlife crisis comes from. I'm definitely starting to feel panicky about some stuff.'

As for plans to tie the knot with Yates, our source said 'there is no rush to the altar.'

'They will get married when they want to, and it will happen, but on their own time.'

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Wilson and Yates for comment.
