Paltrow, 53, gushed that Hudson, 46, is 'like a little sister to me' while honoring her at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival Arlington Artist of the Year Award event.
According to an account from People, she said on stage: 'I am here because Kate Hudson and I are real, true, old friends.'
Hudson was recognized at the gathering for her role in 2025's Song Sung Blue, which earned her a 2026 Best Actress Oscar nomination.
Paltrow continued, 'I'm much older than she is, but I remember seeing her when she was little.

'We grew up in the same orbit, but it wasn't really until the early 2000s that we became what we are now.'

The Marty Supreme star noted that their friendship has run 'the full spectrum.'
She recalled, 'We've been through breakups together and just this wonderful intertwining of our families.'

Paltrow shares daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19, with ex-husband Chris Martin.
'Our kids were in a band together when they were tiny and went to high school together,' Paltrow reminisced.
She then referred to her friend as 'an amazing artist, an entrepreneur, obviously an incredible singer and a mother.'
People reported that the Academy Award winner recounted FaceTiming Hudson and crying after she watched Song Sung Blue.

'I burst into tears. Not only because I was so proud of your skill and your brilliance, but because I felt you finally had a role that shows all of what you can do,' she shared.

As the event in Santa Barbara continued, Hudson took the stage for a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter columnist Scott Feinberg.
The mother-of-three spoke about wanting 'something different' after years of appearing in romantic comedies.
'I think when you become really famous doing that genre, it’s hard for certain filmmakers to see you in anything other than what we’re watching.
'[They think] these sort of things like, "Well, transforming isn’t what she does" when, in fact, it’s what I love to do,' she said.

Hudson pointed out that she’s ready for 'the next phase.'
'It doesn’t mean to me that all of a sudden I just want to be doing this for the concept of the accolades; I want to do it to put people in the theater too,' she explained.
'This feels like the beginning of maybe that part where I get to do a little bit more transformations than maybe I’ve been able to do in the past.'
