Graham and Dern Filming The White Lotus in Nice

The stars and Laura Dern got back into character to film series four of the hit HBO drama in Nice on Wednesday.

The pair headed to the airport in the French hotspot to resume work on the £80 million drama, after kicking off production at the last month.

Heather, 56, cut a stylish figure in a white midi dress with a colourful bow print as she strolled through the terminal.

Laden with heavy suitcases, Laura, 59, was dressed in a leopard print jacket and a striped top for the scenes.

Laura had previously replaced Helena Bonham Carter on the show, but the actress left the production due to creative concerns surrounding her role.

The successful series is shooting on the French Riviera,  Max shared last month. Filming is also taking place in the popular towns of Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco. 

There will also be scenes filmed in Paris, though the story will primarily be filmed along the picturesque Côte d'Azur.

The hotels being used for season four have also been revealed: Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap, and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes.

The White Lotus du Cap is a play on the name of the real hotel Eden du Cap where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton notoriously carried on a torrid love affair while married to other people, then returned there for their own honeymoon. 

A source connected with the hit show told The Mail on Sunday: 'White Lotus skewers the ultra-rich and famous so where better to film than on the actual red carpet at Cannes?

'We've gone guerrilla-style and have cameras filming the frenzy around the festival with our fictional characters at the heart of it all. It is blending fact and fiction.'

The plot of the £80million series revolves around the stars and producers of rival films nominated for the festival's Palme d'Or award.

The cast includes , Sir Ben Kingsley and , the replacement for , who left after less than a week of filming.

Footage posted to social media by fans showed the show's actress AJ Michalka, inset, walking the red carpet.

French actor Vincent Cassel will play the manager of the White Lotus du Cap against a background of 'multiple murders and deaths', according to the insider.

The source added: 'Cannes fits in with the opulence of previous seasons and Cannes can feel like satire so it's perfect for The White Lotus.

'Cannes is a summer camp for narcissists with unlimited champagne, yachts, prostitutes, screaming publicists and celebrities with egos the size of houses. What's not to love?'

Helena Bonham Carter was supposed to take a central role during season four, but she abruptly left the project and was replaced by Laura. 

HBO released a statement announcing Carter's departure from the show due to creative concerns about her role.

'With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,' the network revealed to TMZ.

'The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks,' continued the premium cable broadcaster.

In their statement, the network said: 'HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.'

The show's official Instagram account made the announcement last week, with the caption, 'New company is on the way. #TheWhiteLotus season 4 welcomes Ben Kingsley, Max Minghella and Pekka Strang.'

The White Lotus is an anthology series . 

Season one was set in Hawaii and focused on wealth disparity. Season two was set in Italy and explored sexual politics. 

Season three took place in Thailand and centered on death and Eastern spirituality.
