But fans were stunned to learn that even Roy Cropper has been hit by the crisis, after discovering the eye-watering price of a pie in his cafe in a recent episode.
Roy's Rolls has been a fixture on the cobbles since 1999, and has been at the centre of all kinds of drama on the soap.
The greasy spoon has offered locals all kinds of cafe favourites, including fried breakfasts and sandwiches as well as tea, coffee and cakes.

But Roy was left devastated earlier this year when a fire ripped through his beloved cafe, leaving him with just a few precious mementos from his marriage to his late wife Hayley.
After repairs, the cafe finally re-opened, but some eagle-eyed viewers spotted that a humble pie has soared in price.

A menu board visible on screen showed the savoury treat, along with chips and mushy peas, now cost £6.95.

Roy was offering a plate of the classic dish for just £5.50, but the new cost meant an increase of more than 25%.
Fans were aghast at the price hike, writing on X: 'Roy Cropper has officially joined the 1%. £1.45 price hike just because he put in some new lightbulbs. Capitalism has reached the cobbles;
'I know inflation is bad, but Roy's Rolls is now charging London prices for mushy peas. Absolute scenes!'
'Weatherfield has officially been gentrified. One fire and suddenly Roy thinks he's opening a gastropub in Didsbury. Next he'll be charging £4 for 'artisanal' sourdough toast.'
A greasy spoon has repeatedly been a fixture on the Corrie cobbles since its first episode in 1960.
It was previously Dawson's Cafe on Rosamund Street in the late 1970s before Jim Sedgewick purchased it and named it Jim's Cafe, which his wife Alma and Gail Tilsey ran together.
Following his debut in 1995, Roy became an employee at the cafe and later bought it, renamed it Roy's Rolls and in 1999, he moved the entire premises to Victoria Street.
Fans were aghast at the price hike, writing on X: 'Roy Cropper has officially joined the 1%'
The price hike is a start contrast to other business on the soap, with fans previously shocked to learn the low price of a cocktail in the Viaduct Bistro.
The eatery is currently selling a mojito cocktail for £5.50 at a time when, a similar drink could cost double that in the real world.
Similarly, an apple thyme martini is being sold for just £5.75 and a Viaduct Visa, which consists of rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream, costs the same.
Fans joked on Reddit: 'Makes me nostalgic for a time when going out was reasonable and affordable- back in the 90s!'
'Quite like the sound of a Viaduct Vista. Quite like those prices too! Chin chin!'
'Probably 2010 prices since that was the last time they changed the opening titles/graphics.'
Coronation Street continues on Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
