It looks like football’s most beloved balladeer Mike Brady has a job for life has fans praised his AFL Grand final performance in Melbourne on Saturday.
Mike, 76, once again, performed his iconic tune Up There Cazaly in front of more than 100,000 footy fans at the MCG.
Up There Cazaly was created by Mike in 1979 as a rousing Aussie Rules anthem about footy legend Roy Cazaly that is synonymous with the sport
He has performed the iconic tune at 14 AFL Grand finals starting with his first in 1979.
And it seems that Mike and his famous song have become such a fixture in the Grand Final festivities that fans don’t know what to do without them.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one footy fan was unsure what would happen on the big day in the event of Mike’s untimely passing.
‘I wonder what the AFL will do when Mike Brady dies?’ the fan asked to which another suggested: ‘Kylie Minogue,’ to be the one to pick up the Up There Cazaly mantle.
Commenting on 7AFL’s X post of Mike’s performance, one fan said they couldn’t imagine a world without Mike Brady singing at the Grand Final.

‘I hope someone has this voice recorded for evermore,’ they said. ‘I can’t imagine a GF without it.’
Another chimed in with a similar sentiment, offering: ‘Really hope they are 3-D capturing Mike Brady right now so in the future we can have a hologram of him belting out Up There Cazaly on the G on #AFLGF day.’
Yet another fan suggested that the whole competition may have to be scuttled after Mike’s passing.

Mike wrote Up There Cazaly in 1979 to promote Channel Seven’s coverage of the Victorian Football league and was first performed by The Two Man Band featuring Mike and Peter Sullivan.

Speaking to A Current Affair before his 2024 Grand Final performance, Mike said, after all these years, he still gets a thrill out of performing the tune at such a large event.
‘My first grand final was 1979, Carlton vs Collingwood. It was a full house and it was like coming home,’ he said.
‘I love it when I walk out. I get this feeling of warmth from the crowd.’
He added that he was lookign forward to watching Katy Perry’s performance.
‘I’m really looking forward to Katy Perry. She can really sing. She’s earned her dues,’ he said.
‘I don’t know whether I have earned my dues, I think I’m just a lucky boy.’
