Emmett J. Scanlan has announced the death of his 'brother' in a heartbreaking Instagram post on Tuesday.

The Irish actor, 47, was inundated with condolences from his former  cast mates, including Jamie Lomas.

'Fly free brother Georgy, you gorgeous sublime angel… I'll miss the f***** bones of ye…', he wrote.

Emmett's actress wife Claire Cooper also paid tribute on her social media, writing: 'Fly high, dear George. Like we talked about, the veil is so thin …closer than we think.

'Call on us sometime and let us know how you're doing. Until then, rest easy dear one and enjoy that healing pool that awaits you.

'Thank you for being so dear to my husband and me. You will always be loved.'

Emmett was pictured for the first time since announcing the death of his brother on Wednesday.

The actor was seen on set filming the second season of Guy Ritchie's MobLand alongside lead actor Pierce Bronsan. 

Emmett stars as the head of security to Pierce's character Conrad Harrigan's family in the crime drama series.

The Paramount+ crime drama launched last year, with Tom Hardy, 48, playing Harry Da Souza, who works as a fixer for the Harrigan crime family. 

The star-studded cast also includes acting heavyweight Dame Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan.

Rounding out the ensemble are Paddy Considine, Janet McTeer, Toby Jones and Lara Pulver, to name just a few.

MobLand was created by Ronan Bennett, with executive producers including Guy Ritchie and Jez Butterworth.
