A new fan theory has emerged following the latest episode of -  and viewers are convinced 's character Cassie could be heading toward her darkest storyline yet.

Episode five saw Alexa Demie's character Maddy take complete control over Cassie's rapidly growing online career, managing her content and finances as the pair attempted to rebuild their fractured friendship after the Nate fallout.

However, fans believe Maddy may secretly have an ulterior motive.

In one scene, Cassie signs a stack of paperwork handed to her by Maddy without even glancing at the documents. 

Speculation quickly exploded across social media, with some fans theorising the paperwork may have contained clauses granting Maddy legal control over Cassie's career and image rights.

'Watch the contract says Maddy gets 50 percent of earnings,' one user commented, as another wrote: 'BIG mistake!'  

'Maddy is about to take everything from her,' another agreed, as someone else warned that Cassie is 'toast'. 

Many viewers pointed out that Cassie has repeatedly been portrayed this season as emotionally vulnerable, dependent and desperate for validation, making her an easy target for manipulation.

The theory gained even more traction after Maddy appeared to form a surprising connection with Alamo - the dangerous strip-club owner tied to Rue's increasingly violent criminal storyline.

Fans now suspect Maddy could end up forcing Cassie to work for Alamo as a way of ensuring she never leaves her again.

Some viewers believe Cassie may be pushed into working at Alamo's club, while darker theories suggest the show has been subtly hinting at a wider trafficking and exploitation storyline throughout season three.

'Yes. Cassie is gonna take a downhill plunge and become one of Alamos girls,' one user speculated. 

'Imagine the contract she signed was an agreement between Maddy and Alamo for Maddy to sell Cassie/traffic her to Alamo - and she didn't even read it!' another wrote. 'It'd make sense why Cassie recited a Shakespeare scene about being held captive,' someone else added.
