The streaming service decided against moving forward with the adaptation, insiders told Variety on Thursday, a year after the streamer announced the project as having been in development.
The reboot could still happen elsewhere, sources told the outlet, citing CBS Studios and Paramount .
A new project based off the hit rom-com is still 'expected to generate significant interest' when shopped around again following Peacock's decision not to move forward, insiders told the outlet.
The storyline stemming from the motion picture - which also starred , Stacey Dash and the late Brittany Murphy - would Horowitz, the outlet reported.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Silverstone and Peacock for further comment on this story.

The project has a number of high-profile names attached to it, including ; as well as Amy Heckerling, who penned and directed the 1995 movie.

'Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school's pecking scale,' a logline for the movie reads. 'Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other.'
The movie, which also featured Elisa Donovan, Donald Faison, Dan Hedaya and Breckin Meyer, was rebooted for TV shortly after its successful run in theaters.
Rachel Blanchard played Silverstone's Cher character in an adapted sitcom that ran for three seasons, initially on ABC and then on UPN.
The series, which was created by Heckerling, also featured stars from the original film such as Dash, Faison and Donovan.
