Chris Hemsworth Sparks Debate Over Aussie Slang

has divided his Australian fans after sharing what he views as a common Aussie slang expression. 

The Marvel actor, 42, made the comment when chatting with British comedian in a new video this week. 

When Chawawa asked Hemsworth how he would say that he's 'not here to waste time' in Aussie slang, Chris quipped, 'I'm not here to f**k spiders.'

The saying, which can be traced back to the 1970s and is used by Australian celebrities like , turned out to be controversial with locals. 

It means a person does not want to mess about or waste time with trivial tasks, and is another way to say, 'Not here to f***k around.'

Many Aussie fans commenting under Chawawa's TikTok video claimed they had never heard it before.

'Where in Australia has this ever been said? NEVER,' wrote one person, while another agreed, 'Who says that even??? I'm an Aussie and I don't say that.'

'No one in Australia says this. I'm convinced Margot Robbie made it up as a joke,' someone else wrote. 

'Aussie here and never ever heard this,' another commented, while one more said, 'I've never heard that saying before.'

Others were familiar with the saying, and some wondered if it might be regional.

'If you haven't heard this saying, you can't convince me you're actually Australian,' said one fan. 

Another wrote: 'As a West Australian, I have heard this saying plenty. Chris is not alone.'

'This is so real whoever is Aussie and hasn't said this, you're not Aussie lad,' someone else commented. 

It comes after Chris described ditching Hollywood for Australia as the 'greatest decision' while shedding light on why he made the move in the first place.

'It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it, you know?' he said.

'Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else. And then… you'd come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of living in that space.'

Hemsworth and Pataky, who wed in 2010, are parents to daughter India Rose, 13, and 11-year-old twin sons Sasha and Tristan.

Hemsworth and his wife bought their Byron Bay family home for $7 million in 2014.
