Jacob Elordi proved that gallantry is still alive and well as he hit the red carpet with co-star Margot Robbie for a rain-soaked London premiere of Wuthering Heights overnight.

Thanks to Jacob, Margot, 35, kept her dazzling Dilara Findikoglu gown in perfect condition as he held an umbrella for the star, protecting her from the dreary weather.

The 28-year-old ended up soaking his dapper grey suit after ensuring the Barbie actress stayed dry as they made their way into the theatre to launch the romantic drama.

Video later shared to social media shows that Jacob cared little for the pouring rain ruining his dashing outfit.

With his long hair tousled, the hunky star was seen happily posing for selfies with fans in the terrible conditions.

Once inside the theatre, Jacob and Margot clowned for the cameras, with the pair laughing off the awful weather.

Margot's daring Georgian-inspired outfit was a hit with onlookers, which included a Victorian-era corset and green-trimmed detailing.

Despite being speckled with raindrops, Jacob looked cool in his Bottega Veneta suit, which featured a shin-length coat-jacket and pleated trousers.

He completed his retro style with a leather tie and a pair of black patent leather dress shoes.

Margot has been leaning into the Georgian era of the film throughout this press tour and her recent outfits have nodded to the period film and the 1847 novel that served as its inspiration.

The actress plays Catherine Earnshaw to Elordi's Heathcliff in the new film, and their off-screen chemistry has almost overshadowed their on-screen romance over recent weeks.

Robbie recently claimed to relish the movie's emotional 'swings' and said her character cries almost relentlessly in every scene she's in.

Asked if she prepares differently for romantic scenes, she told PEOPLE: 'No different to all the other scenes that we do. The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us.

'My character essentially cries in every single scene, but no, it was a joy. I loved playing a character who kind of swings from one wild emotion to the other in an instant.'

The new movie is written and directed by Emerald Fennell, and the 40-year-old filmmaker stressed that 'safety and trust and love' were uppermost in her mind when she helmed the sex scenes.

Fennell – who directed Elordi in Saltburn – added: 'It's always just about making sure everyone feels super comfortable and we all are, really. We trust each other and so we try to kind of make it funny and laugh everything off.

'But love scenes are just the same as any other scene, really. And so we just approach it from an emotional point of view.'

Fennell also revealed that she relished the experience of working with Robbie on her latest theatrical release.

She said: 'Do you know what? She's an inspiration. She's an extraordinary woman.

'She's a mother, she's a producer, she's an unbelievably talented actress, and she also always has time to be generous to the people around her. And so she's the best.'

Wuthering Heights opens in theatres in Australia on February 12.
