'I don't know yet... We'll sort this petrol out and then I'll get to work!' Portelli joked.

On Wednesday night, the outgoing entrepreneur officially opened the first of his chain of  stations – and the event was marred by an accident after an rider was struck by a car.

Chaos erupted as hoons swarmed the area in souped-up vehicles, and an electric bike rider collided with a car on the road and was sent flying into the air, landing on the road.

The e-bike rider's condition is uncertain, but witnesses say he got up after the collision and fled the area.

Police, who were already on the scene investigating another car outside the event, chased the e-bike rider on foot.

The car being inspected by police was eventually towed from the scene.

Police tailed Portelli's convoy moments after he left the event – one car, not Portelli's, was pulled over.
