The professional chef, 50, won the cooking show in 2005 and subsequently co-founded Wahaca, a popular UK-based Mexican restaurant chain.
She took to Instagram today to share her health news with her 150,000 followers, sharing a series of photos of her in hospital.
She captioned her post: 'So… I had a mastectomy last Friday. Originally I'd had a cyst there but the 2nd (& 3rd) lump turned out not to be one at all. Quite the reverse. They were bad asses.'
Thomasina then urged her followers to get themselves checked even if they do not think the lump is cancerous.
'Take out: Always check a lump EVEN if you think it's a cyst and do it promptly!!!', she wrote.

'So today I am feeling enormously grateful. 1. For the care I have had so far. 2. For the hamper my girls packed for my hospital visit. How sweet were those disco glasses?! 3. For my family (my hubbie, and my mother, in particular, for just being so epic and kind in this v sudden roller coaster).'
Thomasina showcased the hamper made by her three daughters, which was filled with teddy bears, colouring pens and a pair of disco sunglasses.

She also thanked her friends and followers, adding: 'So, hugest love to all of you. You follow me, you hang with me and I don't tell you often enough what that means to me.'
Thomasina has become a successful celebrity chef over the years, writing a recipe column for the Guardian and hosting TV shows such as Mexican Food Made Simple on Channel 5.
She was recognised for her contribution to the food industry with an OBE in 2019.
Writing in the Guardian in 2023, Thomasina called on people to eat 'significantly less meat' to help the environment.
While she is not totally against meat-eaters, Thomasina wrote that she is in favour of more regenerative farming practices.
She said: 'I am much more for small-scale, community-driven farming because I believe in the potential of food to be a force for good, for human and environmental health.'
