Olympian Tara Lipinski has shared that her surrogate experienced a loss during the second trimester of her pregnancy.

On Friday the 43-year-old ice skater, who already has a daughter named Georgie born via surrogate in 2023,  took to Instagram to break the 'devastating' news.

'I didn't think I was ready to share this yet,' Lipinski began her caption. 'If you're part of this community, you know how sharing in the moment can break you.'

The loss happened in the winter, she noted.

'A few months ago, we lost our baby in the second trimester,' said Lipinski who is wed to Todd Kapostasy. 'We've been on our second  journey for two years now.'

The athlete left a photo of a heart with Baby Kapostasy Lipinski on top and a two wounded red heart emojis over it.

She added, 'Our first surrogate, who carried Georgie, wasn't medically cleared to proceed with our sibling journey. I grieved that ending and we started over.

'From the long road in finding a surrogate, to medical clearance setbacks, to a failed transfer, and now this loss… it hasn't been an easy road.'

And she mentioned the surrogate who had the loss.

'A second trimester loss was devastating. Something new to add to the long list of heartbreaks we've endured on this fertility journey,' shared Lipinski. 'Another memory that will be hard to erase.'

She added, 'That appointment will be etched in my mind forever as well as all the steps that came after when a pregnancy is that far along. My heart goes out to all the people who have experienced miscarriage, baby loss and stillbirth. You are warriors.'

Lipinski could not carry her own baby because she has endometriosis, for which she had to have two major surgeries.

She has already had four D&Cs and six failed IVF transfers and eight egg retrievals.
