Soap Star Jennifer Harmon Dies at 82

Soap opera legend Jennifer Harmon has died aged 82.

Harmon, most famous for her role as the villainous Cathy Craig Lord in One Life to Live from 1976-1978, passed away on Saturday, May 9, her family confirmed in an online .

The actress, a resident of , famously earned a Daytime  nomination in 1978 in the Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series for her role as the evil Lord.

Harmon was notably the fifth star to take on the role, following the footsteps of Catherine Burns, Amy Levitt, Jane Alice Brandon and Dorrie Kavanaugh, and played Lord until the character's final appearance in November 1978. 

She portrayed Chris Kirby on How to Survive a Marriage for its full run from 1974 to 1975.

Per THR, Harmon appeared on Broadway 21 times over nearly 50 years, debuting in a revival of Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s You Can’t Take It With You.

Her Broadway appearances also include  Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit in 1987, Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie in 2005 and Edward Albee’s Seascape in 2005-06.

Harmon also stood by or understudied for stars including Jessica Lange, Judi Dench and Blythe Danner.

The actress' TV appearances include Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz, Rescue Me and The Good Wife.

Harmon was born in Pasadena before attending the University of Mississippi and the University of Michigan.

She moved to New York and joined the APA-Phoenix Repertory Company, which sparked her Broadway career.

Harmon later made a sensational return to One Life to Live in the 1990s to play an attorney representing Erika Slezak’s Viki Lord.
