Selena Gomezs Key Question to Benny Blanco Revealed

The 38-year-old music producer revealed the important question Gomez, 33, asked him when they first struck up a romance.

'She asked me, "Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,"' he told the Spanish publication El País. 

Gomez's pertinent question was posited due to her immense fame as a singer, actress, and beauty mogul. 

Blanco said he decided to embrace a public-facing romance.

'And then I said, "You know what? Screw it." We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love,' he explained.

Elsewhere in his conversation with the outlet, the musician admitted, 'I don’t like to expose my life. Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong.'

Prior to making his status with Gomez public, the pair 'kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months,' said the producer.

The lovebirds confirmed their relationship in December 2023 and got engaged a year later; pictured in October 2025
