Rick Moranis Returns to Hollywood at Comic-Con!

Rick Moranis made a special appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday to promote the long-awaited sequel Spaceballs: The New One, which marks his first live-action movie in almost 30 years.

The rarely seen funny man, who reprises his role as the Darth Vader parody character Dark Helmet, received a standing ovation the moment he walked on the famous Hall H stage.

Once the applause finally died down, Moranis joined his co-stars Josh Gad, , Daphne Zuniga and Lewis Pullman for a panel discussion about the film and how he came to be in it.

Moranis, 73, whose last movie was 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, even joked about his decades-long break from Hollywood, saying he never 'retired.'

'I really wasn’t retired. I was just negotiating,' he said, per Page Six.

Truth be told, Moranis stepped away from onscreen acting in the mid-1990s to raise his two children after his wife, Ann Belsky, died of . He was seen .

While he avoided major film roles, Moranis occasionally did voiceover work and recorded comedy music albums.

The iconic star of Ghostbusters (1984) and Little Shop of Horrors (1986) told the Comic-Con crowd that Spaceballs: The New One 'came along right at the right time,' and he eagerly agreed to return to the spoof galaxy far, far away after 'hearing who was going to be in it.'

'It just felt like this is it. It’s time and - yes. I said yes, and it is the best decision I’ve ever made,' Moranis said.
