Farahan, 52, exposed his 'friends with benefits' fling with the dashing trainer Bob Harper, 60, best-known as a host of The Biggest Loser.

They struck up their dalliance at the gym and remained intertwined for years, though Farahan was more romantically invested than Harper.

Then Harper married a man called Scott and the relationship transformed into a menage-a-trois, with the trainer 'bouncing back and forth' between two men.

Their time as a 'threesome' culminated in a wrenching tragedy that Farahan recounted in his newly published autobiography.

Entitled Memoirs of a Gay Shah: My Story of Family, Fame, and Becoming a King, the book containing the history of their romance hit the shelves this Tuesday.

Harper and Farahan were first introduced when they were both working as trainers at the same gym, a job that the latter eventually left.

At that point Farahan began taking Harper's classes and they became 'inseparable' best friends, forming a bond that eventually developed a sexual component.

Harper's view of him in their relationship became 'the catalyst for me to realize that this is not okay,' that he was unwilling to be in 'second place,' Farahan wrote.

'I really wanted to have a stable, long-term relationship with someone who was loving and loyal to me and only me,' said the Tehran native.

'Someone who was choosing to be with me above all others, and not out of desperation, either. Someone who had options, but was still choosing me.'

That same year, Harper confessed to a past 'tawdry little thing' with Farahan during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Although their romantic involvement was long since over, Harper made a point of noting their enduring friendship, saying: 'I love Reza, though, I love him!'
