The actress, who recently with much fanfare, hinted at the return of her iconic character Elle Woods.
When asked if the long-awaited sequel was still happening in an interview with Bustle published on Thursday, she candidly replied: 'Absolutely.'
Witherspoon suggested the scriptwriters and filmmakers are still refining the 'world' of the film as the script remains in development.
'It's a whole world that we want to build with this character,' she explained.
Witherspoon said she recognizes the large demographic of people who want to see Elle's return - particularly at a later and equally important stage of her life.

She acknowledged women who 'want to rally' around multifaceted characters that reflect real-life people, which she said is 'not dissimilar to what happened with Barbie.'
'There's a feeling that women want to rally around those characters that were part of their childhood and celebrate the idea that Elle Woods is more than the color pink.'
Witherspoon added: 'She's part of your identity of self-worth and accomplishment.'
