Natalie Bassingthwaightes Affair Mirrors Neighbours Plot!

Natalie Bassingthwaighte became the butt of a joke on Wednesday when she opened up about an affair she once had with a married man when she was 19.

The Neighbours star, 50, shared the story in her memoir, Love Like This, and on the Inherited podcast, saying she once fell in love with a much older man who had a wife. 

Fans have since roasted the actress, drawing parallels between her real-life affair and the love triangle that her character, Izzy Hoyland, went through on Neighbours.

'The hardest part was feeling deceitful because I've always felt like that's not who I am as a person to the core,' Natalie recalled of the affair in a podcast snippet.

'I just fell in love with a person who told me I was amazing and beautiful and talented and funny.

'The hardest part was her [the wife]. Knowing that you're doing something to someone else. When she came to me, it was the worst day of my life.'

Natalie revealed in her memoir that she was 19 when she had an affair with a married man who was 55 years old. 

During their relationship, Natalie said she fell pregnant, but later miscarried the baby. 

The incident has striking parallels to the love triangle that played out on Neighbours in the early 2000s, involving her character Izzy, with Karl and Susan Kennedy. 

On the show, Izzy seduced Karl into an affair and later fell pregnant by the doctor, creating a dramatic storyline that stretched across several seasons of the show. 

Fans flocked to the comments of the podcast clip on TikTok to draw parallels between Natalie's real-life affair and her character's affair on Neighbours. 

'Yeah his name was Karl Kennedy we all watched it happen,' one person wrote.

'Not her living her Neighbours storyline IRL,' said another.

A third commented: 'Is this real or is she talking about Neighbours?'
