Mickey Rourke Apologizes to Ex-Wife After 28 Years

Mickey Rourke has finally apologized in public for his painful divorce from Vogue model Carre Otis.

The 73-year-old Angel Heart actor was wed to the 57-year-old cover girl from 1992 until 1998.

They met when she was cast as the young love interest to a bad boy in the racy Zalman King movie Wild Orchid which came out in 1989.

Their marriage suffered plenty of ups and downs with Rourke being arrested in 1994 for spousal abuse. There was also a strange incident where she was accidentally shot in the chest.

His Monday Instagram note hinted that he was in an emotional state as it was difficult to decipher.

'Wrong girlb not her fault all my mistake I was a fool fit so many yrs not her fault at all I just made a blind terrible mistake big regret not of it her fault all my blame,' he wrote. 

The note was accompanied by a montage video of Otis in Wild Orchid as he played the Phil Collins song In The Air Tonight.

In her book Beauty, Disrupted: A Memoir, she described their marriage as not easy.

Otis said she was shot in the chest after Mickey stashed a handgun in her bag without letting her know. The bullet hit just two inches from her heart. 

'We were on a set in Santa Fe, Mickey was working, and there was a horrific accident,' Otis said. 'There was a gun, his gun, it was in a bag.' Otis threw the bag down and the gun went off.

'I was hit with a .357 bullet,' she said. 'It was about two inches from my heart. It exited through my shoulder. I was really unbelievably lucky that it didn't hit a bone.'

Otis claimed a fight turned physical in 1992, and he hit her again after that. She said she turned to heroin to cope with it all.

Her past is full of ups and downs.

When entering the modeling world as a teenager she became anorexic, which she said led to health issues like holes in her heart.

Otis also said she was raped by her agent in Paris at age 17, something she detailed in her 2011 book Beauty, Disrupted.

She said the man was Gerald Marie, the head of Elite Paris. At the time he was engaged to supermodel Linda Evangelista. 

In 2012 the model told the San Francisco Chronicle that she had became an advisory board member of the Model Alliance. That is a nonprofit that is dedicated to improving the labor conditions and rights of models. 

She is also on the Ambassador Council of the National Eating Disorders Association.  

'Coming from the history and past that I come from, of sexual violence and rape, you have to turn that around and find a way to empower young women,' Otis told the Chronicle.

'I'd turned many corners and was coming from a place not of bull- but of honesty. It was another lifetime. One day, it will be an honest conversation with my kids.'

She also said: 'It's a very sketchy industry, with grown-up problems enveloping minors. Any other industry would have child labor laws. How did that slip? People need to take responsibility for the damage done outside the industry - women and girls with eating disorders and dissatisfaction with their body image.'

She has been married to Matthew Sutton since 2005 and they live in Sonoma County with daughters Kaya and Jade.
