It comes as Maya could be poised to move her success across the Atlantic, as

The presenter has a brief role in the Netflix hit's second season, but has impressed bosses so much with her acting debut, that they want her back for a longer run.

Maya made a brief appearance in the trailer for The Gentlemen's second series, in a scene alongside star Theo James, ahead of its release in September.

The star has already launched a bid to crack America with her role on the show, flying to New York earlier this month for a string of promotional TV appearances.

Sources are now predicting her part on the show could see her turn into a global star.

It comes as Maya is set to wrap up filming on her ninth series as the host of Love Island, and will front the live final from the villa in Mallorca on Monday.

A source told The Sun: 'The Gentlemen is set to be a huge stepping stone for Maya, who delivers a rather impressive performance despite not having a major part.

'But that could all be about to change as they eye her up for another series of the show, which is already one of Netflix’s biggest hits of recent years.

'The US market laps up shows like The Gentlemen as they’re both sexy and quintessentially British, rather like Maya herself.'

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Maya Jama for comment.

Also joining the cast for the new season is Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville, who is best known for playing Robert Crawley in ITV drama.

And according to The Sun, the identity of Hugh's character will remain under wraps, with an insider telling the publication: 'It was pretty obvious that Hugh's new character plays a pivotal role in the story that runs through the drama's second outing.

'Though it's a bit of a surprise to see someone in a gangster thriller who's used to playing wholesome figures in shows like Downton Abbey and the Paddington movies.

'But it's fair to say with his giant head of grey hair and thick black glasses they've given him a very distinctive new look.'

The Gentlemen is based on Guy's 2019 film of the same name which starred Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Grant.

Many fans rushed to review site Rotten Tomatoes to give their praise following the show's first series.

It has received 75 per cent on the Tomatometer and 84 per cent on the Popcornmeter.
