Maren Morris shows off her vulnerable side with the release of her latest song, one week after coming out as bisexual in the wake of her divorce from Ryan Hurd.
The 34-year-old Grammy winner — who refuted reports she’s leaving country music — debuted the new collaboration with Julia Michaels called Cut! on Friday.
‘Cut! is about me holding myself together through the day, looking well-rested, not a hair out of place, not canceling any plans with friends because that’s how well I want you to think I’m doing,’ Maren said in a statement.
‘Perhaps those things are all true, but at night I let the mask slip and let myself scream or fall apart to let the steam out of the kettle,’ she added. ‘It’s a cathartic release that doesn’t require secrecy, but there are worldly expectations to keep it together despite your feelings.
‘This song gives me permission to fall apart.’

The mid-tempo track serves as the first preview of her forthcoming 5-track Intermission EP, set to release on Aug. 2.
Cut! is also the second joint effort from the artists, following Michaels’ co-writing of Circles Around This Town, the lead single from Morris’ 2022 album, Humble Quest.
The song arrives amid several recent personal updates from Maren, including her joyful announcement earlier this month that she identifies as bisexual.
In an Instagram post celebrating Pride Month, the singer wrote: ‘Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+, happy pride!’
The announcement came five months after finalizing her divorce from Ryan, which she had filed for last October after five years of marriage.
The pair share four-year-old son Hayes.
In December, Maren revealed if she had dipped her toe in the dating pool since the split during her appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
‘No, I would like this to wrap up,’ she replied. ‘I don’t have that headspace for that.

Maren’s Howard Stern appearance comes after she admitted she and Kyle Richards have been supporting each other during their respective splits.
The RHOBH star put her marriage with Mauricio Umansky on pause in July.
‘I’ve been texting with Kyle,’ Maren revealed on Watch What Happens Live in November.
‘I feel for her, for sure. I can’t even imagine that long of a relationship, but yeah, she’s obviously going through something and we’re watching it through this lens of public whatever.
‘But I think she’s a human being that’s going through a tough thing.’
When asked by Andy Cohen if she knows Morgan Wade – who has been the subject of romance rumors with Kyle – Maren replied, ‘I do, yeah! I know Morgan. She’s great.’
A source close to the singer said Maren’s recent personal struggles, including post-partum depression, played a key role in her decision.

The insider claimed there was ‘no cheating, infidelity or anything like that’, adding: ‘They are going to continue to co-parent. Maren thinks Ryan is a great dad – but she just isn’t in love with him romantically anymore.
‘She’s lived a lot of life for 33 years and now wants to get to a place where she can enjoy things on her terms.’
