She will never be forgotten for the jaw-dropping meat dress she wore to the back in 2010.
Known for her out of this world ensembles and whacky looks, took things to a whole new level when she opted for a dress and shoes made of meat for one of the highest profile events in the entertainment calendar.
After receiving the Video of the Year Award, the Poker Face hitmaker accepted the accolade off none other than , as she joked: 'I never thought I’d be asking Cher to hold my meat bag'.
Never scared to cause a scene or feel the pressure to conform to the norm, the all important message of her hit anthem Born This Way, Lady Gaga repeatedly left fans in anticipation for what she would do next.
However in latter years the star has considerably toned down her provocative style, opting instead for a far more wholesome image.
Despite still taking risks in her music and delighting her fanbase, known as the little monsters, with her latest record Mayhem, it seems nowadays Lady Gaga is keeping her theatrical looks for the stage.
Now, as she celebrates her 40th birthday this weekend, the singer, whose real name is Stephanie, is preparing to settle down and tie the knot with her fiancé Michael Polansky after a two year engagement.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music last March she confessed how finding love had changed her relationship with the stage.
'My home used to only be the stage. It was so lonely, and also, it is so much more fun to take somebody up there with you, someone that loves you, that knows what you're capable in all the various aspects of life.'
She touchingly shared: 'I think that there's nothing that can bring a tear to my eye I think more on a daily basis than knowing that I mean also so much to somebody in a way that isn't about what I'm doing onstage, or my song, or what I'm wearing.'

Celebrity fashion stylist and host of the Talk in Wardrobe podcast Ellis Ranson told The Daily Mail: 'Lady Gaga is in her more wholesome era, yet she still feels like a unique artist and keeps her individual style.
'Rather than toning down, I see her style going in a new direction. She knows her audience and understands who she is and she seems to have found comfort in this place.
'Her previous eras felt strategic as she was proving her worth as an artist and experimenting, which we have all done at some point in our lives, just maybe not as extreme or in front of the world.'
Bursting onto the scene in 2008, it was clear the world had never experienced a Gaga before as she stepped out in flesh-flashing leotards, an array of wigs and platform heels.
A big fan of an accessory, she often wore zany eyewear or extravagant lashes, seeing red carpets as an opportunity to step into a costume to steal the show.
In 2009 she left little to the imagination as she rocked a sheer red lace bodysuit to the Marc Jacobs New York Fashion Week party.
She paired the racy look with a white wig shaped like a spike sun, a tiny string thong and a matching scarlet-coloured face mask.
That same year she also shocked in a dress made out of plastic bubbles and posed as 'Mother Monster' in a black lace veil, velvet blush pink bra and fishnet tights.
As her award show success climbed, Gaga went on to scoop two Grammys and three BRITs.
Making sure to dress to impress for the occasions, she donned a glittery lilac-coloured space age-themed dress with sparkly heels and a yellow wavy wig while balancing precariously in a sparkly pair of platform heels.
She then treated her British fans to a white lace bodysuit complete with matching ankle boots and a giant back combed beehive.
While promoting her third album Born This Way, Gaga could have been mistaken for Cruella de Vil as she stormed the streets in a two-tone monochrome wig, leopard print bag and pillar box-red flared trousers.

As the years went on the star continued to bring the looks, dressing up as a sexy mermaid in another sheer sea-themed bodysuit while leaving the airport in Japan.
Meanwhile in a memorable performance in Amsterdam she appeared to be engulfed in polka dot tentacles as she warbled out her hits.
Yet these days appear to now be behind her.
Confirming that Gaga appears to be embracing a new chapter, Ellis continued: 'Now she has entered a new space where she doesn't have to rely on crazy looks and creating moments, which proves she was always in control of her fashion choices.'
Pinpointing the moment things changed, she explained: 'For me personally, as she stepped into her A Star Is Born role, her aesthetic shifted, and we got to see what was behind the drama of the silhouettes and outfits.
'That being said, the fashion has never suffered and has always been at the forefront of it all.
'As a true artist, this shift feels authentic following her through the different stages of her life. Which overall to me still feels extremely iconic, as you never know when she will choose to be loud or keep it soft.'
Starring alongside Bradley Cooper in the hit 2018 remake, Gaga proved she was no one trick pony as she blew fans and critics away with her acting performance and hit song Shallow.
Opting for a shimmering sequin-studded silver gown at the LA premiere of the film, the star oozed Hollywood glam.
And over the last few years she has continued to impress with her elegant red carpet looks.
Meanwhile her album Joanne in 2016 saw the star embrace a more country sound as she stripped back her look in a simple pink hat for the album cover.
Last month she shocked fans with a surprise appearance during Bad Bunny's Superbowl performance.
Keeping her outfit rather demure, she looked sensational in a ruched blue dress with a red flower pinned to her shoulder.
But not all of her Gaga-isms have been lost and at this year's Grammys she still gave a nod to her quirky style as she bleached her eyebrows to match her blonde hair and commanded the spotlight in a theatrical black feathered gown by Matières Fécales, featuring an architectural high collar.
Taking to the stage to accept the award for Best Pop Dance Recording, the star changed into a red feathered long-sleeve top which she paired with a structured black skirt.

And while her career is now more than established, so too is her personal life.
During her acceptance speech onstage, she declared her love for her partner and even credited him for helping her create the music and put together her album.
'I have to say thank you first to my partner, Michael,' she said as the camera panned over to show his face as he stared adoringly at her.
'I love you so much,' she gushed as he sweetly blew kisses back at her.
Gaga continued: 'You are by my side every single day in a way that I can't thank you enough for.
'You worked so hard with me on this record all year,' she added. 'So, I love you and thank you.'
The couple was first romantically linked around New Year's Eve 2019 and later went Instagram official in early 2020.
They reportedly decided to go their separate ways in early 2023 due to the singer-songwriter wanting marriage and children and the tech executive not being ready to take those steps.
The pair reportedly had an amicable dissolution to their coupling, and remained friends.
Then, in August 2023 they were spotted together for the first time in more than a year.
Gaga has been engaged twice before, ending her engagement to Christian Carino in early 2019, and after becoming engaged to actor Taylor Kinney in 2015 they broke up in 2016.
Michael popped the question in April 2024, with Gaga sporting a massive $1 million engagement ring.
The ring is estimated to be worth around $1,000,000 with a diamond that looks to be between 10 and 20 carats, according to Page Six.
However, prior to getting the ring, he chose a rather unusual way to propose, presenting her with just a blade of grass.
She shared that Michael 'asked me how I would want him to propose to me one day. We were in our backyard and I said: “Just take a blade of grass and wrap it around my finger," and then I wrote Blade Of Grass.'
While penning the song, the Bad Romance hitmaker 'remembered the way his face looked, and I remembered the grass in the backyard.'
