Katie Waissel Hospitalized with Severe Pneumonia

star Katie Waissel is recovering after being rushed to hospital in 'excruciating' pain with 'severe bacterial ' last week.

The singer, 40, detailed her experience in a lengthy statement on Instagram, telling fans: 'Sorry I've been a little MIA, everyone. A couple of days ago I was rushed into hospital by ambulance and admitted as an emergency.'

'It turns out I have severe bacterial pneumonia, so I've been rather unexpectedly residing in a hospital bed in Central London ever since.'

Katie went on to call it 'one of the most frightening and excruciatingly painful experiences of my life.'

'At one point I was apparently far closer to the edge than I realised. It's a very strange feeling being told afterwards just how serious things had become, when the whole time I genuinely thought I just needed to push through it and I'll be fine because I have to be.'

She ended her statement by saying 'a huge thank you to the extraordinary teams who have cared for me' at St John and St Elizabeth Hospital in London.

'The kindness, professionalism and compassion I've experienced has been nothing short of incredible.'

'I'm taking things one day at a time, doing exactly as I'm told for once, and hoping to be back home sometime next week.'

'Thank you for all your messages, love and patience while I've been quiet. Hug your people a little tighter tonight. Lots of love, Katie x

In 2021 the star was rushed to hospital over a suspected heart attack. 

She then posted photos of herelf wearing a Holter Monitor as part of cardiac testing. 

Katie appeared on series seven of The X Factor in 2010.

The star was mentored by judge Cheryl in the girls category, and finished the show in seventh place.

She welcomed her son Hudson in 2018. She now advocates for 'revolutionising Safety in the creative industries', launching her foundation O.W.H.L in 2023. 

In 2024 Katie called for a negligence and duty of care investigation into Simon Cowell's record company after Liam Payne's death. 

Katie, who auditioned alongside Liam on the 2010 series of X Factor, name-checked Cowell in two statements in which she accused music bosses of focusing on 'profits rather than people'. 

She then cited an 'urgent need for change in the music industry' as she called for an 'immediate investigation' and 'new laws' to protect stars.
