Kate Hudson Ditches Rom-Coms, Eyes Oscar Glory

is looking forward to taking on more varied acting roles after landing an Oscar nomination for the biographical musical drama Song Sung Blue.

The star, 46, has long been typecast in romantic comedies, despite being Oscar-nominated for breakout role in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous.

Her fluffy box office hits have included Bride Wars and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but Hudson says that she's now trying to break out of the genre.

'It was clear that that’s where the industry liked to hire me and then my goal, my hope, was to make the best versions of those,' she told The Hollywood Reporter.

'I was starting to be like, "I really want to be doing something different." And I think when you become really famous doing that genre, it’s hard for certain filmmakers to see you in anything other than what we’re watching,' she continued.

'These sort of things that like, "Well, transforming isn’t what she does" when, in fact, it’s what I love to do.'

The actress has earned her second Oscar nomination for her role in Song Sung Blue

The pair, who both had success in the music industry, sing all the music in the film.

Hudson has been making inroads in her music career in recent years, releasing her own album, titled Glorious, in 2024.

Last year, she made an appearance on The Voice as an advisor on Adam Levine's team.

Outside of music and Song Sung Blue, Hudson is currently starring as the lead in Netflix's sports comedy series Running Point.

Hudson shot to fame playing rock 'n' roll groupie Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous.

Throughout the 2000s, she carved out a niche as one of Hollywood's go-to rom-com stars with roles in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Le Divorce, Bride Wars, Something Borrowed, and Fool's Gold.
