Josh Gad took to Instagram on Saturday to share with his 1.3 million followers that he would not be able to appear in his scheduled afternoon performance of the Broadway musical Gutenberg.
The 42-year-old actor — who spoke out against internet trolls earlier this year — filmed himself in the backseat of a vehicle as he addressed his fans.
‘Hey guys, I just wanted to give you a quick message,’ he opened the clip before adding, ‘Unfortunately, I am going to not be able to do this afternoon’s show. I have a bit of a medical emergency that I have to go deal with right now.’
Gad added, ‘I would rather be spending my afternoon with all of you than at a hospital, but I hope that this gets resolved pretty quickly and I’ll be back on stage with my buddy [Andrew] Rannells as soon as possible.’
The star also elaborated on the situation in his caption.

The note read: ‘Not the news I’d like to share, but life happens. Unfortunately, I will not be at this afternoon’s performance of Gutenberg.
‘I’m dealing with a medical emergency that despite telling my doctors I wanted to wait till Monday to address, they thought needed to be addressed immediately.
‘So, off to hospital for (hopefully) quick treatment and then with any luck will be back by this evening.’
Josh gave a shoutout to his understudy as he added, ‘In the meantime, please help me wish @russelljdaniels the best of luck as he makes his Broadway debut as Bud! I know he is going to give you all the show of your lives!’
He mentioned Daniels again in his Instagram Story, sharing a backstage photo of him with Rannells arm-in-arm.
Gad wrote, ‘Today, with 2 hours’ notice @russelljdaniels took the reins opposite my brilliant co-star @andrewrannells and blew the roof off. So truly proud.’
Hours later, the Frozen star reemerged the social media platform to share a positive health update.
He uploaded a screenshot of a message typed in Apple’s Notes app that had a banner that read in bold, capital letters: ‘GOOD NEWS.’
Plot: The show is based on Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the printing press
Shoutout: He mentioned his understudy Russell Daniels in his Instagram Story, sharing a backstage photo of him with Rannells arm-in-arm
Resolution: Hours later, the Frozen star reemerged the social media platform to share a positive health update
The brief note continued: ‘Thanks to the phenomenal team at Lenox Hill, Iwas able to be diagnosed and treated in record time for some lower abdominal issues I’ve been having.
‘With their blessing, I will be back in the show this evening. Thank you all for your incredible messages and good vibes.
‘Felt them and got the best possible results! Now, let’s get back to eating dreams!’
Then note concluded with three red heart emoji. The caption of the post simple read: ‘GUTENBERG AND HEALTH UPDATE.’
