Joe Manganiello Faces Life-Threatening Health Crisis

Joe Manganiello has revealed a scary health battle which included a life-saving amputation.

The 49-year-old actor - whose fiancee  - has opened up for the first time about suffering from autoimmune-related illnesses in a tough health battle which lasted seven years.

Manganiello is set to release a new memoir - titled Bloodlines -  centered around his previously undisclosed health ordeal.

According to the press release, the former husband of had been dealing with 'a cascade of autoimmune-related illnesses' which wreaked havoc on his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system.

This sent him into a seven-year journey which was 'plagued by chronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, existential crisis, and a prolonged fight for survival that left doctors with few answers and no clear explanation.'

As he was frustrated with traditional medicine's inability to give him any answers, he found a rather unorthodox solution.

The synopsis explains that the star explored 'shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long-lost family records and the rebirth of his own spirituality.'

On the journey, he looked into his own family genealogy where he discovered ancestors who had survived the Armenian genocide in addition to others who lived with chronic illness.
