The controversial Australian fashion stylist made a shock return to Instagram during (AFW) on Tuesday, sharing an emotional essay addressing the backlash, rumours, and personal struggles that led to their absence.
Jamie, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, was the centre of controversy during AFW 2025 following clashes with influencer Sophia Begg and a fashion assistant.
They also raised eyebrows for attending the exclusive event wearing a gown by fast-fashion brand Shein.
In their post, Jamie reflected on the impact of the controversies, admitting the past year had been one of the most difficult periods in their life.
'It's been a long time since we last spoke - a year, in fact,' Jamie began.

In their post, Jamie reflected on the impact of the controversies, admitting the past year had been one of the most difficult periods of their life
'After taking the time to reflect and process everything, I want to start by saying I'm truly sorry for not being there to answer your questions in real time.'
Jamie explained that leaving social media was not a simple decision and said they had been struggling both physically and mentally at the time.
'I wasn't in a good place physically or mentally, and I needed time to get myself back to a point where I could properly show up again,' they wrote, adding: 'That time away took a lot more out of me than I think people realise.'
The stylist also acknowledged the criticism they received during and after Fashion Week, admitting they had made mistakes and hurt people, while insisting they were willing to learn from the experience.
'I'm not perfect - I never have been,' Jamie said, adding: 'I've made mistakes, I've hurt people, and there are moments I wish I had handled differently.'
Addressing the fallout, Jamie said much of what was said about them online came from people who 'never met' them or fully understood the situations they were discussing.

Jamie also addressed the emotional toll the backlash took, saying they did not see themselves as a victim but admitted the experience deeply affected them.
'I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me,' they said.

'I've dealt with rumours and assumptions for much of my life, especially growing up queer and navigating spaces where people often spoke about me rather than to me.'
The statement also pushed back against some of the more serious claims that circulated online at the time, with Jamie insisting there had been 'no evidence' to support certain allegations.

Jamie said they initially believed staying silent was the 'stronger choice' but have since realised that silence allowed room for misunderstanding.
They added that the past year had been spent reflecting, rebuilding and working on personal growth behind the scenes.
Jamie's Fashion Week faux pas are well documented.
They famously ruffled feathers at AFW last year when they arrived wearing a dress from the controversial fast-fashion brand Shein.
The brand has been shrouded in controversy for years following allegations of large-scale environmental impacts and the copying of designs from other, often smaller, fashion labels.
The brown-hued, fringe frock, which retails for $69.95 on Shein, was seemingly a knock-off version of the $3,945 Hervé Léger fringed bandage gown.

Meanwhile, AFW 2025 had pushed a strong message of sustainability with various shows, initiatives and installations, including an eBay pre-loved fashion pop-up at Carriageworks.
Elsewhere at AFW 2025, Jamie got into a war of words with influencer Sopha Dopha, aka Sophia Begg, after taking a dig at her during an interview with Pedestrian TV.
The media outlet had asked Jamie who they considered a 'micro-influencer boss' - referring to someone who blindly follows every online trend - with Jamie naming Sophia.
The statement was taken to heart by her fans, who leapt to her defence and slammed the influencer and their choice of dress in the comments of the video.
'Jamie literally wore a dress from Shein to day two. I don't think they're in a position to sit on a high horse about fashion,' one person wrote.
Another chimed in: 'This!! So sick of certain people on a high horse because they're more creative or fashionable than someone else and the audacity to wear Shein. It's astounding.'
Sophia later vented in a video on TikTok about the moment, saying: 'I got named as one of them (mico-influencer boss) by someone who wore Shein to Australian Fashion Week, so not sure what that's about.'

Shortly after Jamie's clash with Sophia, they became once again embroiled in another online feud - this time with a fashion student named Sinead (pictured) who accused them of making a 'rude comment'
The video has since been deleted.
But the controversy didn't stop there.
Shortly after Jamie's clash with Sophia, they became once again embroiled in another online feud - this time with a fashion student who accused them of making a 'rude comment'.
Jamie allegedly told a budding TikTok star she was 'out of a job' while she was in the middle of work at AFW.
Fashion assistant and student Sinead shared a video explaining that she had been working for a fashion brand, interviewing attendees and filming street-style content.
While speaking to one guest, Jamie allegedly approached after hearing the brand name mentioned and said the brand had shut down, adding: 'You're out of a job babe.'
Sinead said the comment stunned both her and the person she was interviewing, and she felt it was disrespectful and humiliating to be confronted like that while working publicly.
She later clarified that she posted the video to discuss professionalism and etiquette in the fashion industry rather than to create drama.
Jamie responded online after viewers asked about the claims, saying Sinead's account was 'not how I remember it going down'
Jamie has also made headlines over the years with their extravagant AFW outfits. Last year, Jamie raised eyebrows for wearing a voluminous wedding dress held up by four assistants
Fellow guest, Married At First Sight star Carolina Santos, couldn't resist commenting on social media after witnessing Jamie's arrival.
'What the f*** is that? Does Jamie think [they] are at the Met Gala or something? Why are people holding [their] clothes?' she said at the time.
Jamie subsequently clapped back at Carolina's comment.
'Carolina, I do have a question because you have a lot to say about me: I just want to know, what do you know about the Met Gala?' they told Daily Mail Australia.
