James Norton Naps on First House of the Dragon Day

poked fun at himself as he shared a picture of himself fast asleep in the middle of the set on day one filming of . 

The actor, 40, stars as Lord Ormund Hightower in the third season of the franchise, which was released last month. 

James posted some behind-the-scenes snaps from filming, with one of James snoozing away in full armour, while his amused co-star posed next to him. 

He captioned the post: 'My first day on @houseofthedragonhbo, and I fell asleep in the middle of set. Needless to say, Matt took a photo'.

Matt, 43, who had transformed into his character Prince Daemon Targaryen, grinned while crew members shared a laugh in the background. 

James also uploaded a selfie with Matt and rocked multiple hair clips in his hair so as to achieve the right look for filming. 

Fans took to the comment section and wrote: 'I’m extremely impressed that you managed to do it in that armour and in that position'. 

'I think I found out my two favs of the cast' and 'Best hairdresser in Westeros with King Consort'. 

The show features major cast members including , Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans and . 

A prequel to  smash-hit , the fantasy series first hit screens back in 2022.

It's famed for pushing the boundaries with its visceral gore, complex moral ambiguities and unapologetic exploration of dark, Shakespearean family trauma. 

 Following the release of series three, one reviewer said there was one scene in one of the first four episodes that 'sickened her' and made the whole audience 'gasp in unison'.

Reviewer Sabrina Barr penned in Metro: 'House Of The Dragon has never been afraid to push the boundaries – the opening episode of season one included a tragic birth scene that's truly one of the most horrifying sequences I've ever watched on TV. 

'In season two, Daemon Targaryen [Matt Smith] had sex with his own mother in a bizarre Harrenhal-induced dream sequence [Harrenhal is an infamous castle in Westeros]. But this latest vomit-inducing moment might take the biscuit.'

Many had already said they would boycott the upcoming season after being left severely disappointed by the ending of series two in August 2024. 

The 70-minute finale – entitled The Queen Who Ever Was – didn't provide the spectacle that many fans had come to expect from season finales.

While it had its share of surprising moments – including a bold gambit by Queen Dowager Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and a shockingly unclaimed Iron Throne – many were left disappointed.

The first season ended with the shocking death of Rhaenyra Targaryen's () son Lucerys Velaryon at the hands of Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), which set the stage for the 'war' to come.

Still fans didn't get much in terms of actual battle action in season two, which is a primary reason why many felt underwhelmed.

And now, as a result, some fans have revealed their plans to boycott the new series.
