Friday night's long-awaited nuptials between Swift and American football star , both 36, were immediately compared to her sold-out Eras Tour by one guest who said as he left: 'Taylor has officially entered her Wedding Era.'

Details of the extravaganza had been the subject of fevered speculation for months, but today The Mail on Sunday can take you inside what has been called America's 'wedding of the century'.

The bride and groom both wore Christian Dior outfits created by the fashion house's creative director, Northern Irish-born designer Jonathan Anderson.

One guest described Swift's embellished white gown with a long train and lace veil as 'pure romantic perfection' – and the singer

Hiring New York's Madison Square Garden arena – where Marilyn Monroe famously sang a breathy Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1962 – for four days of preparation and celebration does not come cheap.

Celebrity event designer Edward Perotti estimates that with the cost of hiring hundreds of unionised workers and having to navigate lighting, catering, transportation and custom-building everything, the budget would have been 'somewhere in the window of $35 million to $50million [£25 million to £37 million]'.

But that's just a drop in the ocean for a pop star worth a reported £1.5 billion.

As the first pictures from inside the arena in New York, began to emerge last night, it was clear the pop star had not scrimped to turn the soulless 20,000-seater concrete venue – usually home to the New York Knicks basketball team – into what she described as 'a garden within the Garden'.

Scores of full-sized trees were hauled in to complement tens of thousands of peach and white roses. Metal stairs were covered with peach carpet with the same hue used for velvet curtains and table coverings in the entrance.

Hanging lanterns and 'tens of thousands of candles' completed the romantic mood as guests moved though a series of rooms and tunnels towards the main 'garden area' with white canvas-cover chairs laid out in rows in front of the stage.

Some rooms were decorated in blush pink and white in what one guest described as 'a whimsical Tinkerbell fairytale theme.' Walls were painted pure white and illuminated with intricate lanterns which cast stunning patterns.

DJ Chop UFL, a friend of the groom, said: 'The secret garden was an unbelievable celebration and experience. So happy for my brother and sister Trav and Tay Tay. It was perfect.'

Comedian Sandler, who met the groom after Kelce landed a cameo role in Happy Gilmore 2, qualified as an officiant to marry the couple – a moment celebrated within seconds of them saying 'I Do' by Madison Square Garden's giant outdoor screens lighting up with the words: 'JusT&T Married!'

The first embrace was described as 'a sweep-you-off-your feet kiss.'

Yesterday American TV presenter Robin Roberts, who hosts Good Morning America, told viewers the wedding felt 'personal' despite the massive venue. She said: 'It really was intimate. Their vows were written in little books'.

Co-host Michael Strahan added: 'It was their dream wedding and it really was amazing.' Adam Aron, chairman of the AMC cinema chain, said: 'It did not look like Madison Square Garden.

Immediately upon entry everything…floors, walls, ceilings, were draped in peach and white. Large blown-up pictures of Taylor and Travis at each age, year by year, from one-year-old to late teenager-hood were on display.'

He added that Sandler as the officiant 'talked and sang and was warm, welcoming, funny and eloquent.

One guest said the food was served in 'a massive space' accessed via hidden doors behind the stage. Buffet stations offered sushi, an ice sculpture surrounded by lobster and oysters and a roast beef carvery.

A vintage red 1970s Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport sporting a custom 'JUST&TMRD' licence plate was in one of the reception rooms. Guests were given white lace handkerchiefs as parting gifts with the couple's initials embroidered on them with the line 'So it's gonna be forever' from Swift's 2014 hit Blank Space.
