Hugh Jackman kept his return as Deadpool & Wolverine a secret even from his agent

Hugh Jackman makes his long-awaited return as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, with Jackman revealing a surprising detail about how he signed on.

Jackman was a little-known Australian actor when he played Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, which made him a household name.

His beloved character had his story come to a close in the epic 2017 superhero drama Logan, set in the year 2029 where mutants have nearly become extinct.

Much to many fans’ surprise, he was brought back in August 2022 for Deadpool & Wolverine, as it was later revealed that this film will not alter the events of Logan, and will not undo his epic death, considered by many to be one of the best superhero endings ever.

With the July 26 release date approaching, Jackman spoke with Rotten Tomatoes, revealing he agreed to be in the movie so spontaneously he didn’t tell his agent.

A year after Logan hit theaters, the first Deadpool broke box office records for an R-rated movie, which got Jackman thinking about the prospects of returning.

‘I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan,’ Jackman explained.

‘For Deadpool and Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, When I said I was done, I really thought I was done,’ he admitted.

‘But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, “Those two characters together.” I knew it,’ he said.

‘I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew,’ he admitted.

‘And I literally couldn’t wait to arrive. As soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan. And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one,’ he admitted.

‘I had to ring my agent and said, “Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie,”‘ he said with a laugh.

‘Sometimes in life things come really clearly to you, and when that happens I’ve learned you just jump, you go for it,’ he admitted.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told Empire that he advised Jackman against coming back, since he didn’t want to undo Wolverine’s death in Logan.

‘I said, “Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back. You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo,”‘ Feige said he told Hugh.

He ultimately came around and serves as a producer on Deadpool & Wolverine, confirming that the Wolverine fans see in this movie is not the same version of the character we have seen in previous movies.

While it remains to be seen how it will do at the box office, first-day ticket sales have already set a record with between $8 million and $9 million already.
