Australian Version of American Game Show “The Floor” with Rob Lowe as Host Officially Announced, Casting Begins for Australian Expats

The US game show hosted by Hollywood heartthrob Rob Lowe is currently casting for the Down Under version.

Nine recently won the bidding war for the program, and is considering the series as a potential replacement for the Hamish Blake-hosted Lego Masters Australia, which recently concluded its sixth season.

Like the American version, the Australian franchise of The Floor is produced by Eureka, an Aussie-founded production company headquartered in Los Angeles, however the show will not be filmed in Australia.

Following a cost-saving trend of many recent productions, The Floor will create a local version of the show by using Australian expats living in Europe.

The casting call read, ‘CALLING AUSSIES LIVING OR PLANNING A HOLIDAY IN THE UK, IRELAND OR EUROPE. Do you want to take part of the world’s hottest new game show?

‘To apply, just answer a quick few questions and upload a photo. It’s that easy!’

Casting expats is an approach that aims to reduce costs by utilising existing production infrastructure.

The show is a Dutch format featuring 81 players standing on 81 individual squares.

Each contestant uses their general knowledge to try to acquire all the squares, with the player who succeeds in doing so over the course of the season wins the game.

The US version of The Floor began on FOX in 2024 and is hosted by Rob Lowe, 60.

According to TV Black Box, Nine is considering launching the game show in 2025 off the back of Married At First Sight after Lego Masters failed to deliver ratings.

‘Despite lead-in momentum from the biggest series on TV, Lego Masters has failed to capitalise on the ratings juggernaut and has been beaten by Channel 7’s Farmers Wants A Wife,’ the industry website reported.

‘There’s no doubt Hamish Blake would be a perfect fit for this format but word is Nine is worried he won’t want to give up Lego Masters for this new format (it’s believed he is unlikely to commit to two programs).’

Australian expats working or travelling in Europe, the United Kingdom, or Ireland can apply to The Floor here.
