They say the most iconic looks never truly go out of fashion – and this Gucci blouse may just be the proof.

When Tom Ford dressed a then 21-year-old in the blue satin shirt and velvet trousers for his 1995 Gucci show, it went on to become one of the most memorable looks of the decade.

even went on to wear the same ensemble at that year’s .

And now, 31 years on, the iconic shirt is making a comeback after Gucci’s creative director Demna Gvasalia quietly added it to his new collection, priced at £1,100.

After the original shirt quickly sold out, frustrated fans were left to hunt for second-hand ones on resale sites.

So rare and coveted was the blouse that one recently sold for £3,778 – more than seven times the price of the £500 original. Now those who missed out first time around can finally get their hands on one.

Mysteriously, former Balenciaga designer Gvasalia, 45, didn’t include the shirt in his debut Gucci show, held with much fanfare in Milan in February.

To the delight of fans, he even invited Ms Moss, 52, to close the show in a black sequin gown. Impressive as it would have been for her to have worn the same shirt that she modelled all those years ago, perhaps Gvasalia felt it wouldn’t have sent out the best message about the originality of his ideas.

Not that Gucci seems overly bothered. The brand’s Instagram account recently posted an image of the shirt to its 51.4million followers.

And its website proudly describes it as part of the Generation Gucci collection, which ‘delves into the brand’s archival codes and combines different generations of design into one aesthetic narrative’.

Whether Mr Ford is delighted or dismayed by the tribute is unknown, although it’s not the first time that the 64-year-old has been referenced by the house he left 22 years ago.

During his seven-year tenure as creative director of Gucci, designer Alessandro Michele also revisited Mr Ford’s archives, presenting satin shirts unbuttoned in a deep V and worn with tailored trousers that recalled Ms Moss’ iconic look.

They say that good things come to those who wait. For fans of one of the most famous shirts in recent fashion history, that wait is finally over – at least for those who can afford the price tag.
