Jeopardy! Champ Courtney Shah Dies at 52

Jeopardy! champion Dr. Courtney Shah passed away at the age of 52 on Wednesday, July 22 following a battle with brain . 

Her death was confirmed by daughter Maya who shared an emotional tribute online through the non-profit organization CaringBridge. 

Shah's daughter told fans that her mother passed away 'in the comfort of her home' and is 'at peace now.' 

Her first appearance on Jeopardy! was in 2021 when she took part in a seven-game winning streak and was awarded $118,558. 

She returned the following year for the 2022 Tournament of Champions and placed third in her quarterfinals match. Shah additionally received $5,000 as a consolation prize for competing as a quarterfinalist on the show. 

'I don't know what you believe about death, but I like to think that she's at peace now,' Maya wrote of her mother. 'We loved her in this world, and we loved her out of this world, and we'll go on loving her.' 

She sent gratitude 'for your grace in all of this' before adding that, 'It hasn't been easy, it will continue not to be easy.'

Maya encouraged others to, 'Hug your loved ones. Tell stories about my mom. Light a candle, say a prayer, pour out a drink - find something that feels meaningful to you to honor the gift that was her presence.'
