Gillian Anderson shares blood-soaked behind the scenes photos from her 'grotesque' role in wacky slasher film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

Gillian Anderson has shared a behind the scenes look at her new wacky slasher  Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by sharing a series of blood-soaked snaps.

The actress, 57, and her co-star Hannah Einbinder, 31, were covered in blood as they posed for a playful selfie while in between filming the movie.

The moment they took the selfie was captured by another camera, which showed the two actors holding up their phones while stood in a gas station. 

Another snap showed them locked in a romantic moment in the middle of a supermarket, holding hands on top of a shopping trolley.

Making light of their gruesome appearance, Gillian captioned the series of images: 'All in a day's work'.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a critically acclaimed, queer slasher film from director Jane Schoenbrun. 

Released in the US, it follows an indie director (Einbinder) attempting to reboot a slasher franchise, drawing her to a former star ().

In the process she becomes obsessed with the idea of casting the original picture's 'final girl,' played by Gillian, sparking a frenzy of psychosexual mania. 

It earned a rousing reception at the , as the film received a six-minute standing ovation.

The X Files star, plays a reclusive actress in the film, and her performance had been lauded as 'grotesque' by director Jane Schoenbrun.

Jane came out as transgender in 2020 and identifies as transfeminine and non-binary, and uses they/them pronouns. 

They said: 'It almost feels like she's like Jim Carrey in certain moments. It's so funny and strange and a little bit grotesque and a little bit sad — so far from our traditional notions of high-fem sexuality, while also still being incredibly sexy and weird.' 

Following the screening, footage showed the audience's positive reaction as Gillian embraced director Jane.

The actress arrived on the Cannes red carpet in an elegant pink satin dress, where she posed for snaps with co-star Hannah.

Jane had previously spoken about the challenges they've faced getting the film made, with indies Plan B and Mubi eventually offering financial backing.

They told The Hollywood Reporter: 'When I look around in our 'post-woke, post-Biden' era, I don't see any other trans artists getting budgets, and that's a f*****g shame.

'I shouldn't be the only one who's making movies at this level of budget.' They fully expect to prove those finance doubters wrong: 'I think this movie will be a hit.' 

The film is set to open the Un Certain Regard programme at this year's Cannes ahead of a release in cinemas on August 7.
