The California-born actor, who rose to fame aged 13 when he starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 in 1991, was booked to appear in Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday, alongside his on-screen mother Linda Hamilton.
However, Metro Comic Con recently posted an update on social media revealing that the American History X actor, 48, would not be able to attend.
'It is with great regret that we announce that due to unforeseen circumstances, Edward Furlong was unable to make his flight to Australia this weekend, and as such will not be able to attend Metro Comic Con,' they began.
'We have been working together to see if there was an alternative flight option, but unfortunately nothing available would get him to Melbourne in time for the event.
'Edward is extremely disappointed, as he was incredibly excited to finally travel out and meet his Australian fans, but he has assured us that he will be coming over to see you all in the near future.'

They finished by saying that fans who had booked a meet and greet with Furlong at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre would have their money refunded.

'Well 50 per cent of my photo ops have now cancelled. Sweet,' one person sniped.
'Noooo I paid for 3 autographs for him and a duo photo with Linda... Are we gonna get another guest or no? And will we definitely get a full refund of the tickets?' a second added.

'You’re having a laugh now right?' someone else chipped in.
Excited fans had spent up to $500 for the opportunity to attend a meet and greet with Furlong and Linda Hamilton, 69, and get photo opportunities with them - fortunately, Hamilton was still able to attend.
The event planners had excited Aussie fans earlier this month when they revealed that Furlong was scheduled to attend Melbourne Comic Con over two days on July 18 and 19.
'Metro Citizens, there is no fate but what we make! We are absolutely stoked to announce that 90s icon EDWARD FURLONG is heading to Metro Comic Con!' they wrote.

As John Connor in T2, Furlong was mankind's last hope, a messianic figure charged with freeing humanity from the vice-like grip of robotic tyranny in a post-apocalyptic, war-ravaged world.
It was also an opportunity for Furlong to establish himself as one of Hollywood's hottest young actors after winning his iconic breakout role in 's 1991 classic.
Aged just 13, Furlong had no acting credits to his name when he was cast as a wayward, teenage Connor alongside 's iconic T-800 Terminator - a killing machine transported from the year 2029 to protect our future leader from peril.
Taking full advantage of pioneering physical, special and cosmetic effects that still look remarkably fresh some 35 years after its initial release, Terminator 2 helped redefine what was possible in cinema, while making hundreds of millions of dollars in profit.
