Late comedian Cal Wilson has been recognised at the 2024 AACTA Awards with a nomination.
The comedian, who passed away after a short battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in October, has been nominated in the Best Comedy Performer award for her work on Foxtel’s The Great Australian Bake Off.
Other nominees in the category include The 1% Club’s Jim Jefferies, Luke McGregor for Taskmaster Australia, RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under’s Rhys Nicholson, Nina Oyama from Taskmaster Australia, The Weekly’s Charlie Pickering and Natalie Tran from The Great Australian Bake Off.
Wilson’s GABO co-host Natalie, who is nominated in the same category, told The Daily Telegraph, comedians like her late friend are ‘rare and brilliant’.
‘They possess with and cleverness and can adapt both at rapid speed in a way that fills a room with joy,’ she said.

‘Cal had that talent and what’s amazing is that it was the second most impressive thing about her. The first was what an excellent person she was.’
Wilson was suffering from a rare and aggressive form of cancer when she died at 53, Daily Mail Australia understands.
She was surrounded by loved ones when she passed away at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
The comedian, who lived in Melbourne, was in Sydney filming The Great Australian Bake Off when she was admitted to hospital.

It’s understood Wilson was battling cancer in secret and only revealed the details of her illness to close family and friends.
She was in hospital for two weeks before her death, with entertainment reporter Peter Ford suggesting the cancer was related to her lungs.
In the hours after her death was announced, Great Australian Bake Off judge Darren Purchase said the comedian appeared ‘very sick’ the last time he saw her.
‘I am sorry this has happened to such a good person, and I cannot get out of my head the last time I saw her when she was very sick,’ he wrote.
‘I wish I could give her a hug and tell her how much she means to me and so many people.’
