Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant’s Surprising Rom-Com Duo

and have been pictured together in New York as they continue to film their new rom-com together.

Cameron, 53, and Stephen, 51, have teamed up for the upcoming movie, titled The Sham, and have been shooting in the Big Apple since earlier this year.

New snaps taken on Monday show the pair filming more scenes together, as they're dubbed the 'unexpected duo we never knew we needed' by The Sunday Times Style.

Pictures show Cameron's character dressed down in a grey hoodie paired with denim trousers as she carried groceries. 

As cameras moved to Central Park, Cameron put on a very animated display, where she stuck her middle fingers up.

In a solo scene, the Shrek actress donned a leopard print coat as her character appeared to receive bad news on the phone.

In another location, they filmed beside a hot dog stand, appearing tense for their dialogue together.

Excited fans of both stars have flooded social media with comments, writing: 'I love that these two are besties'; 'Stephen Merchant is hilarious';

'Cute love them both'; 'Both amazing'; 'Anything Stephen Merchant'.

According to US outlet Deadline, The Sham sees Stephen play the role of Nigel, a man employed at an upscale New York hotel, who desperately needs a wife to maintain public appearances.

He then teams up with a struggling comedian, Molly, who is played by Cameron, who needs health insurance.

While the pair's fake marriage begins as a business transaction, it soon turns into an unexpected romance.

The full plotline for the movie is being firmly kept under wraps by bosses, with no release date currently scheduled. 

Cameron briefly mentioned the new project during an appearance on the Tonight Starring Jimmy Fallon Show. 

Praising her co-star, she said: 'I'm doing a movie with Stephen Merchant, so great, gosh he is the best. I'm doing a film here with him. I don't know the name of it yet.'

Stephen echoed the sentiment by sharing the clip on his TikTok, writing: 'Thanks so much for the love @Jimmy Fallon and @Cameron Diaz. Having a great time making this movie in glorious NYC, can’t wait to share it.'

Cameron took a break from Hollywood in 2014, but officially returned to acting last year to star alongside Jamie Foxx in Back In Action. 

One of her next movies is Shrek 5, set for release in 2027.

The film will see Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron all while Zendaya joins the cast as Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia.

Meanwhile, in 2024 Stephen said he felt like 'the Left' was 'policing' comedy with 'sensitivities that seem out of proportion to the joke'.

Stephen, who co-wrote The Office, said comedians had because they didn't want to spend weeks on social media trying to justify a gag.

In an interview, he said: 'There's always been policing of comedy, of there being... guardrails.

'The difference is that it used to feel like it was the Right that was policing it.

'It feels like it's the Left that's doing it now, and it's allowed the Right to become the arbiters of free speech. Which does feel like quite a significant shift. 

He added there were 'sensitivities that seem out of all proportion with the joke'.

Merchant told The Observer magazine: 'I've noticed it in stand-up, how you're more cautious because you don't want to spend weeks on Twitter trying to justify a joke you were just experimenting with. Because putting out the fires is exhausting.'

However, he also said that he accepts how attitudes shift over time.

'But you do feel like there's a sensitivity to the words before they've even heard the joke or the context,' he added.

'And that is inevitably a straitjacket of sorts.'
